Opaque ruby bowl turning slightly transparent on the rim. Plums, crushed berries, jam, hints of spice on the nose. Palate is tart berry jam, tobacco, plums, cocoa powder. Medium plus tannins and acidity.

Deep, dark reddish-purple in color; essentially opaque. Full, fragrant, & attractive nose of dark fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of spice notes, briary/bramble, earthy, a hint of cocoa & coffee, minerals, & a slight hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, boysenberries & plums with spices, earthy, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but will develop & benefit from several more years of further aging. A blend of 65% Zinfandel, 26% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah & 4% Alicante Bouschet.

Some of the tasting notes here are...something. This is a lovely, completely-in-the-wheelhouse Ridge Zin blend that shows the pedigree of the winery. There's delicious dark red & purple fruits on the nose with a touch of crushed rock and white pepper-y, smoky spice notes. The palate is surprisingly lithe and lifted by bright acids; more of that cherry coulis on the palate. The American oak comes off more herbaceous and green (in a good way) than dill or coconut, as there's plenty of fruit here to absorb it. Some pebbly tannins to bind it all together, give it structure and a bit of aging ability - this could easily go 3-5 years but is enjoyable now.

Ridge's 2021 Three Valleys Red is a deep ruby blend of 65% Zinfandel, 26% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah and 4% Alicante Bouschet, each varietal being fermented on natural yeast then blended and aged for 12 months in American oak barriques (10% new). Offering a nice aromatic package of rhubarb pie, Montmorency cherries, boysenberries, dill and cocoa, it delivers a comparable array of flavors on the medium-to-full-bodied, fresh palate. The American oak flares some vanilla, coconut and eucalyptus, but is complementary rather than overwhelming. Solid in the middle and medium in length on the back end, this is a delicious Zin blend that has lots to offer, especially at this price point. Serially sampled over three hours from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, this showed best after the first 90 minutes in carafe. Drink now-2031.

Rich nose of roasted meat, bacon, blackberry, plum, vanilla, spice. Full bodied, black fruit, definite veggie notes. Needed a few hours to open up properly.

Medium-deep ruby purple with nose of blackberry, brown sugar, and some stemmy green notes. Fresh acidity, full body, and sandy tannins. Fairly concentrated flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and chocolate. A little nettle tea on the finish, which is pretty long! Could use a touch more lift but this is fantastic QPR.

Sour, with shrill taste and a washed out clipped finish. Purchased at Total Wine for $22. As a big fan if Ridge wines, I tried it at this price point. Complete disappointment.

Dark red color. Had a small glass over 30 minutes, from the wine pairing at Meritage. 65% Zinfandel, 26% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah, 4% Alicante Bouschet. Blackberries, creme de cassis, juicy, balanced, full bodied and surprisingly approachable at this point. Worked great with our hanger steak/short rib combo.

Deep garnet color, brightly-toned. Black currant and berry aromas, with black tea, cracked pepper, rosemary, violet and graphite. Fresh, succulent black plum and berry on the palate, over a firm core of anise seed, espresso, clove and iron. Medium-plus in body and refined around the edges. Finely balanced acid and smooth ripe tannins, concentrated on the finish with nice length. Overdelivers at $29.99 at retail, excellent.

Yummy, with structure and tension, youthful. I would guess in two more years time in the bottle if will very much open up and round out.

Hadn’t had this bottling for some years and it really exceeded expectations. Really nice zin that’s not over done.

Excellent value meritage wine heavy in zin and petit syrah. Bought it on sale at Safeway in Bozeman in the 50% off bin. What a score.

Maybe my bottle was flawed… but it tasted a little sour. Not good.
