Reductive on first opening. Red cherry, cranberry, and spices. Touches of smoke, dried cherry and forest floor. Light to medium bodied with vibrant acidity. Some astringency initially which settled in with air. Not particularly long. Very good but not exceptional. Drink now or hold.
WSET Notes:
Pale garnet.
Pronounced on the nose with red cherry, cranberry, clove, smoke, struck match, manure, leather, dried cherry, forest floor. Developing.
Pronounced and dry on the palate. High acidity, medium minus body, low tannins, medium alcohol, medium plus finish.
Can drink now but has potential for aging.

This is lovely. Extremely well balanced. Juicy and with gentle spice that layer in nicely. The soft, fine tannins add a degree of elegance that take if beyond what is otherwise a very smashable wine, to a sophisticated pinot that demands you spend more time with it. Very good.

Appearance: pale ruby. Nose: medium intensity; aromas of gooseberry, chamomile, fresh strawberry, fennel, toast, ginger, coffee. It’s developing. Palate: dry, high acidity, medium tannins very smooth, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavour intensity with some strawberry candy and rhubarb earthiness. The finish is medium plus to long. Overall, it’s a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing. Great 18 vintage from Yarra Valley. It’s fresh and juicy of berry notes, yet intriguing and charming earthy and spicy characters probably imparted by some oak. As Franco said when I visited him in the winery last year, the tannin management is the key which he surely masters it, smooth and silky. I love the cool climate aspects of flavours in this wine, which becomes more and more difficult in Yarra due to global warming. The earthy notes of rhubarb and even subtle white button mushroom add to the complexity and reward with every swirl and sip. The finish is lingering towards long. It’s intense and elegant. At this young age, it’s drinking pretty well. The grip and tension in the wine will certainly reward with more patience. Will leave the rest of bottles for another 3-5 years. Dispensed into small bottle and tried again on day 2. There are pomegranate, some sage, peppermint and leather notes. Very enticing!

Not quite what I was expecting- very pale colour which can be a good thing led on to a comparatively light style PN, think Santenay rather than Chambertin. There was nice fruit with layers of strawberry and a hint of cherry. Attractive rather than profound, a good summer PN.

Looking back at my review last July, I certainly agree with myself on one point, this is an ideal PN for hot weather drinking.

Needs an hour or two for the depth and concentration to get going and then another beautifully made flavoursome pinot
