An Oregon pinot with power and grace. This aged wonderfully and definitely improved over time. Last of 3 bottles purchased from Costco in late '20. Dark red color with large gradient from rim to center. On nose, cranberry, tart cherry and forest floor. On palate, medium+ body, medium acidity, low tannins and a long finish. Flavor profile on palate was more fruit prominent and more red cherry/baking spice driven. Very enjoyable and would buy again. This has aged very well and is still young. 92+/-

Pinot noir from overseas. A wine with a rustic spirit, you have to tame it to understand it. Deep ruby, after a while you get scents of cherries, violets, anise and wet earth. Leather, black cherries and blackberries. Light tannins, earthy finish but not very long. Very interesting wine.

Half bottle, popped and poured. Darker translucent ruby color. Nose of violets, compact soil, red berry. Layers of pristine red cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate joined by deepening plum, hints of iron, and stony earth. Enlivening acidity and surprisingly tamed tannin. Longer finish of berry and earth with elegant poise characteristic of this house. Nice pairing with grilled trout at the dining room of the Prince of Wales Hotel, Waterton National Park on Father’s Day.

Drinking well! Medium red, good acidity, fruity nose, flavours of dark berries... primarily cherry . Tannins are soft and give this wine a slight smoky aspect. A pleasant sweetness that gives this wine good length. For me at my sweet spot for drinking. This wine ages well and I find that 5 years + seem to be a good time frame for drinking.

Consistent with my note from 9/2020, although this wine was more fruit forward than the last bottle. Think this wine would be ideal in 2-3 years for my palate but fruit is quite ripe now if you like that.

Translucent darker ruby. Nose of dark berry, damp cellar, anise, violets. Layers of savory primary red berry, late hits of intriguing strawberry, and fine iron granules on the bracing palate. Bright acidity and firm tannin drowned by fruit. Long finish of raspberry, earth, and sweet grip. Lovely and capable of long life. Paired with grilled salmon at Emigrant Springs campground. Half bottle.

Beautiful, complex wine at an excellent price. It is in a perfect drinking window right now though still has a way to go in its longevity. There is a lovely spice (cardamom?) on the nose that it very inviting. Earthy but still fruit-driven on the palate with many layers. My only minor quibble is that it tastes a bit hot on the finish but I think that just speaks to its age more than anything. I hope this is indicative of the '16 vintage in the WV.

Like it ... don't love it. Ruby, cherry red in glass with clear rim. nose has mushroom/dried cherries with herbal element maybe described as green tea. finish has a bit too much acidity that closes off finish - probably will improve on next 2+ years.

What a great Pinot Noir! Decanted for 2 hours. Notes of red cherries, strawberry jam, rose petals, black tea, sea salt dark chocolate, and a whiff of wood. Medium acidity, medium body, and medium length. It is such a delight on the palate. Fruit forwardness reigned in by the fleshy but well integrated tannins that makes for an elegant finish. For a Pinot, I was surprised how much body this wine has. WS 92 pts and WA 91 pts are spot on. A fantastic example of the skill of winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin and her team. Its relative value makes this wine even more special.
P.S. - Tasted the little leftover the next morning and the wine had lost most of its bouquet and elegance. Not a wine that gets better the next day. One does not expect that of a Pinot Noir, so not surprised.
Popped and poured. Aromas of cherry, loamy earth and spice. Cherry, red plum, loamy earth, spice and fine tannins on the palate. Very long, pure finish. Medium bodied. Served with grilled wild salmon.

Pop and pour, consumed over 2 hours: Appearance: Pale ruby. Nose: Pronounced aromas of cherry and Asian spice with secondary aromas of charcoal and smoke - developing. Palate: Medium-minus acid, medium alcohol, medium-minus tannins, medium bodied, showing ripe cherry and raspberry with smoke and vanilla notes. Very good quality though oak treatment is quite noticeable, can drink now or wait a few years.

Opened 1 hour, served to accompany Moroccan chicken, matched very well. Dark garnet colour. Nose shows herbs, toffee. Lively palate with coriander, lavender, thyme and plenty of stone fruit. Terrific balance, sporting ripe black cherry, black tea, emerging oak, and a surprising tannic bite on the medium-long finish. Yet, the satiny mouthfeel and judicious acidity are the framework for how elegant this is overall. Excellent now, and likely for another 3-4 years at least.

Rich ruby red color. Dark for a Pinot. Nose is lovely and full of dark cherry, anise and spice. But no “bubble gummy” as I find a lot of new world Pinot. This is balanced in integrated. Reminds me of a a ripe morey st denis. Palate is similar with ripe dark red fruits. Balanced with nice acidity. This is quite good and as someone with a burgundy bias I’m quite impressed with this. Certainly new world but made in a Burgundian style.

The wine is deep magenta in the glass yet with clarity. The nose is reticent with muted tones of cherry and wood. On the palate the wine is deep-flavored with sour cherry and dark tea predominating. There’s an herbal quality, oak in the background, and a tartness on a medium finish. Robust enough to pair well with jerk chicken and steak.

Powerful strawberry and cherry aromas, along with rose petals. Palate is more strawberries, plus cranberries, tea, earth, and a bit of cedar and cinnamon. Oak is well integrated here. Tannins are there, but they're velvety and subtle.

I am a fan of DDO and what Veronique and Philippe Drouhin are accomplishing every year in Oregon. And 2016 was a fantastic year. This regular ‘entry level’ Pinot Noir in 2016 is in such a good place right now. I had it with a simple Easter dinner this ‘corona year’ (Ham, asparagus, bread) and the wine is singing! So fresh, a nice acidity and balance between sweet and tart summer fruit scents and flavors, lingering taste. Strawberries, raspberries, a light touch of sour cherries... I could drink this all day long and am excited to try the step up wines from this house, Laurene and Louise.

What KSWINEGEEK said below, with an edit: "Not a particularly expressive nose, but some cherry and spice comes forward late. Pretty simple [and sweet] wine with some red fruit mid palate...a bit disappointing given the producer." My spin: very, very new world without a trace of the Burgundian elements I remember from random past vintages.

A touch riper than average Willamette, is it 2016 or Dundee hills? Not sure, but really well made. Would rebuy in a heartbeat.

APPEARANCE: A nice red color, a bit darker than a typical pinot, but this one is still young
AROMA: Nice aromas of ripe red berries, subtle leather, and green bell peppers
TASTE: Nice acidity with well integrated cherry cola and raspberry flavors that really coats the palate

Very approachable already. Wonderful fruit, perfect balance and silky tannins. Why ever go to Burgundy??
