  • 2009 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echezeaux Vieille Vigne

PnP. ABV 13%. Expressive nose from get-go. Good mixture of flowers, spices, and dark soils with floral notes still more pronounced. Beautiful nose. Substantial mouthfeel on the palate, more like a 1er Cru than a village. Dark and ripe fruits with just enough acidity to keep it interesting. Good spices and woods lingering at the back. Paired this with Gouda, Camembert, and Brillat Savarin with Truffles, sinful but so delicious.

  • 1993 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

PnP. ABV 13.5%. Clean nose but one could smell high acidity (is that even possible or just a mental trick?) and dark soils. On the first sip, acidity wasn’t as high as fear, pretty much in-check. Dark soils were more prominent than floral notes or spices. Tannins mostly resolved but still retained good structure. Honestly it was more like a refined NSG than a VR initially, after about 30 mins of air, this became lush with good VR spices at backend, very nice. Kept on improving with air/time, 2nd glass was much better than the first (either that or I was mabuk), about as good as the ‘93 Jadot Beze tasted a few months ago. Wow. Refined and sexy wine from Jadot? Really? Probably the best bottle form the case so far. Should cruise at this level for many more years with its vibrant acidity and good balance.

  • 1993 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge

PnP. ABV 13%. Never had the pleasure of drinking the ‘78 and ‘85 vintages but this ought to be one of the best vintages of this wine if not the best. Pretty much in this drinking plateau for a few years, tannins mostly resolved, flowers, stems, and dark soils are all there. Finished a tad spicy too. Inner mouth perfume lingering on, nice, not what I would expect from a Beaune. A thinking man’s Burgundy. Graceful Beaune rouge. Exceptional 1er Cru and normally great value.

11/21/2015 7:42:00 PM - Only one visit to Bordeaux!? Do not worry, nothing really has changed since '96...probably even 1896 ;-).

11/2/2015 7:21:00 AM - Hello pclin - I have been fortunate to taste many old Burgundies, including the one from Clos de Tart that you mention. They are not all holding up but when they do, they are great.

8/30/2015 1:10:00 AM - Hi PClin! Good to meet you and become a fan. We like your favourite regions, think your "dream wine" is "dreamy" and would have loved to been present when the 1945 was sipped. We visited last year and had lunch with their MD at the Chateau...magic! Your introductions to wines in various regions is top-shelf!!! Hope to chat soon and often! Buzzzzoff.

5/27/2013 8:06:00 PM - DRC were a lot cheaper in the 90's. lol. But my go-to Burgs have always been Armand Rousseau, but even those are selling at outrageous prices now.

5/27/2013 9:27:00 AM - I'm flattered you've chosen me as a fan...and super jealous you've been able to taste Romanee Conti as an introduction to Burg! Next week I am tasting DRC for the first time, will keep you posted...
