Wine and guinea fowl and steak oh my (Basel): Here we go again. Just all the things. A glimpse of the ethereal. Deep concentration and power. Sensual, spiritual and even intellectual delights. Maybe not the grandest of burgundies, but it also is not so demanding of its taster - harder to imagine any liquid giving more pleasure at this point in time.

Wine and guinea fowl and steak oh my (Basel): An interesting herbaceous quality to this - gives it a lightness. I could almost imagine a gentle waft of Brett passing through the winery when this was bottled. Clearly a step above the 1er in concentration and complexity, but I did not love this as much. Opinion at the table was divided, with some finding this to be the best of all.

Wine and guinea fowl and steak oh my (Basel): Lovely structure to this. Enticing nose - something floral, parma violets? The slight sherbet character persists on the palate, along with a tightly coiled fruit character that winds its way around a gently tannic spine. Real depth and structure - on the night I actually preferred it to the Vougeot VV which followed. Such good stuff.
