Screwcap. Bright yellow, pale’ish. Ripe bright fruits, a mix of tropical and citrus. Intense sherbet zest, white flowers, blossoms, quite floral over a core of lemon and honeysuckle. Oak totally integrated. Great acidity, crisp finish, very youthful for its age. Impressive.

Delicious, now a deeper golden colour with beautiful texture and a fuller frame. Terrific length and concentration for a 14 year old Chardonnay (under screwcap), one to sip on and enjoy the nuances that have developed over many years. Ripe stone fruits, some tropical notes, hint of wood smoke and light spice, some faint flintiness but all threaded through rich Chardonnay fruit.

This felt young first go and needing more time, I gassed it overnight and next day it was more developed and great but the metal closure guarantees a very long life

2006 anything goes dinner. My first Giaconda Chard! Top-class, with great intensity and freshness. Lots of pineapples and lime. Lots of guesses ranging from a very good Puligny, to a great Dagueneau! Must say I was truely surprised to still see a '06 of this... Great treat!

Giacondas for me, when they get bottle age go quite fast to the caramel side of life, to an extent where it seems to dominate. But hold in there for a few minutes, hours or a couple of decants, and it all comes into a glorious rich and fulfilling balance. Lovely wine.

The return of JonnyG: Good perfume with florals, straw, melon and some toasty oak. The palate is youthful, with the flinty acidity taking a more prominent role that is usual with Giaconda. I like that it is held back a little more and I hope that some further age will give it more complexity.

A fine example of power and restraint in tandem, though a bit on the lean side, and lacking that richness one would expect. On the downward side of its life, or in need of more time?

slowly heading downwards now, I think; minerals, hints of oxidation - it is not oxidized ad such and is still alive and quite fresh on Day Three after opening, but the fruit has been replaced with more tertiary notes of honey and butter. Drink up - with lobster & scallops ... #with PB&BHchezmoi.

Ah, the golden color made me fear, that I was too late - which would have been a bad surprise, considering the producer; and no, it is not oxidized, actually just a point with it's buttery richness, minerals, acidity and overall balance - very burgundian indeed - this guy plays classical music for his barrels, and you can taste it :) - very good now now with scallops, lobsters etc. - but I would not keep the bottles much longer. Kandestederne,

As good a new world chardonnay as Ive experienced and whilst different from a grand cru Burgundy right up there with a wonderful Montrachet. Big nose full of tropical fruit scent with some oak in the background. But the palate...omnipresent fullsome pear and peach, buttery to be sure, oak integrated and some spice and cinnamon on the long finish. Well done Rick.

A beautiful Giaconda, great elegance and minerality and so very defined and precise. Lovely complexity and not overdone, perfect balance with not a hair out of place. Will age very well.

Lunch with Eric and KH (The Pawn): decanted before serving. beautiful meursault-like aroma of minerals, toast and butter. a little hot on the finish and a little sweet for me, but a great chardonnay nonetheless.

A little simple next to the Chassagne group with ripe peach and fig aromas and flavours. It is a big wine with excellent fruit intensity. Needs bottle age to add a little more interest.

Dennis Lock's Birthday (Charcoal Grill on the Hill, Kew): This really is very good stuff. There is a buttery vanillin oak, backed up with some mineral citrus with a palette of chestnuts, rich cashews and a massive long mineral finish that goes on and on.

Opened a bottle on a hot (Australian) evening, and it blew me away. Clear yellowish colour clean as a bell. On the nose, it was intense, minerally with yeasty overtones, and after shoving my nose into it, I couldn't wait to actually get the taste. I was not dissapointed. Perfectly balanced, all elements in harmony. Lemon sherbet mixed with good acid and palate cleansing intensity. And it was long, I mean really long on the palate. Persistence was such that I could take a sip, walk away for five minutes and could still be enjoying the flavour.
Has to be one of the best Chardonnays I have had.

Has had the full forest of wood thrown at it but looks balanced with its commensurate levels of powerful, sappy peach fruits. There are notes of coconut ice and aniseed and it finishes with a full thrust of orchard fruits and a suggestion of minerals.

The nose is almost extreme, minerals, meal and hazelnuts with underlying aromatic fruit lift. The power in the nose follows through to the palate, showing richness and complexity, moving to a creamy texture and lingering minerality on the finish. This is in the powerful end of the spectrum, akin to a vintage such as 2000 which has now evolved beautifully. ...Rick Kinzbrunner.
