PnP in a restaurant. Wonderfully fragrant nose. Fruit dominant (rather obviously given the age) blackberry, cassis, touch of pencil, very elegant. Very enjoyable experience. Something like 93-95+ for me. Would like to try again in 5 years or so

A fragrant and layered bouquet of toasted coconut, ripe blueberries and blackberries, dark chocolate, sweet star anise and cinnamon with an undertone of luscious oak surrounding the aromatic elements. Refined and sophisticated in its presentation on the palate witb the same flavours found in the nose. Very good depth, length and concentration in the mid-palate. Yet it is done elegantly and harmoniously. Almost full-bodied in its open and polished structure. Transition to the very long finish is smooth and fresh with fine tannins. The aftertaste of dark chocolate, coconut and cassis lasted for close to a minute. Ready to drink now with or without decanting but it will show it’s fullest potential in 5 years from now. Clearly 1st Growth standards in Italy, even in Bordeaux and Napa. Extremely good value for money, if you buy early. 97-98 pts.

P'Aquí P'Allá; 10/7/2022-10/17/2022 (Alicante y Madrid - España): By the glass from a single bottle. International style that seeks excellence hiding terroir. Waves of macerated black berries with cherries in liqueur and a slightly menthol note. Delicious combination that unfortunately is not followed in the mouth where we discover a wine with too much extraction, insufficient central acidity to address such a structure, resulting in an imbalance that only time can harmonize. I will not wait and I doubt it will repeat here. Serious doubts about my 03 Sassicaia.
Deep, dark garnet in color. Full, forward, & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & currants with overtones of floral & earthy/dusty & cigar box notes of tobacco & cedar, leather, spices, anise & espresso. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with cocoa, spices, herbs & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing (2+ hr.) but definitely needs additional time to develop further at which time I anticipate a higher score (95+). Despite the anguish over its every increasing cost, it is about the same price point, if not lower than many comparable Napa cult Cabs & Bordeaux.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS; Bolgheri (By BS): Beautiful and complex bouquet which is still a bit locked, but there is pleasant oak, herbs and spices and good fruit. On the palate truly great with dark berries, laurel, beautiful and fresh acidity, round tannin and an enormous length. Very beautiful and luxurious, complex wine with a great future. 94+ already.

I liked it, but it was way too young to drink it. Was good, but rois wine gave us the impression it needs many years to really see its potential. At this price, don’t waste it by drinking it now. If yiu can’t wait, buy another bottle and give this one go someone that will be patient to unleash it’s potential!

Decanted for 3 hours. This is young but was eager to taste given the vintage and professional reviews. Blackberry, dark fruits, leather, tar, violets, faint hint of tobacco. Tannis are polished but will integrate nicely by 2026. This vintage has incredible potential and evolve to be a quintessential Ornellaia in 5 years.

Ornellaia's last great vintage was 2010. In the past decade they have moved towards an over extracted style, reminiscent more of certain Napa producers than Bordeaux. And now that the best Merlot grapes are being vinified for Masseto, Ornellaia has lost a big contribution to its blend. A wine without identity, without character. Certainly not worth its price tag.
Deep purple with a garnet edge. Rich bouquet of red berries, forest floor and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it is still closed (3 hour decant), but enjoyable with plum, cherry compote, earth and glints of green herbs leading into an exceptionally long finish. While already harmonious, agree with those who advise to wait many years on this one.

A less extracted style than past vintage, the 2016 Ornellaia is subtle and perfumed with plum, dark cherry, leather, clove, and cedar. Seductive, soft, fairly polished. Best starting 2025. (51% Cabernet sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet franc, and 4% Petit verdot.)

From 375ml bottle. Not decanted consumed over 2+ hours. After the 2016 Sassicaia last night I was curious how the Ornellaia is. The Ornellaia was (like Sassicaia) very young but it seemed much more approachable than the Sassicaia. If you have a few bottles it's definitely worth to pop a bottle even this young. And it will be even better in 10 years. 94 pts. at the moment.

Fantastic. Drank together with the 2013 which seemed more tannic/structured and the 2016 more approachable at this stage. What a great balance and beautiful texture. Goes on for minutes. Both vintages are just outstanding.
The oak has yet to fully integrate; was persistent, and distracting through the final glass. HOLD. Try again in 5-8 years, unless you're into this kind of thing. Seems to have some good structural qualities, otherwise this is classic Ornellaia. For the style, it's highly recommended
Clear ruby. Nose of cassis, tobacco, sandalwood, vanilla. Palate shows medium-full body, high alcohol, medium+ acidity. Tannins starting to integrate but still prominent. Finish is long and complex. Dense, sensual wine. This is going places and will only get better. Will wait several years before opening next bottle.

2016: Bourdeaux vs Tuscany: More closed now, only hinting of its potential. Wood accented, taste of walnuts, ripe currants, tobacco. Tannic, finishing a little bitter from the oak. Pedigree shines though, but needs time.
Clear deep ruby; clean medium plus nose of blueberry, vanilla, leather and rosemary; dry; high acidity; high tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavor intensity; pfn with a hint of sweet black licorice; long finish; outstanding quality; drinkable now but better to wait a few years; 160k bottles made

Dark ruby in colour, the nose had lush ripe blackberry fruits, along with thyme, violets, black pepper, cedar and spice. The palate was lush, concentrated and complete, with blackcurrant compote, dusty chocolate, espresso with light cedar and spice, the tannins are so pure and whilst the palate is nicely round the finish is clean, precise, elegant and long. Pure elegance and perfection. Wait 10 years for perfection. 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot.

2025-2045+. 19.5 vvPunkte (97/100) vvWine.ch

Back to the more tense structure like the 2014, although more potential here than the 2014. Not sure the 2014 will outlive it’s tannin. More mineral to the palate than the suave 2015. Very nice wines, of course.

Drank last nite at rare Ornellaia tasting with the winemaker, specifically showing off his 4 vintages of white Ornellaia. Vertical Tasting with Axel Heinz (The Dimenna Center for Classical Music): The ‘16 Ornellaia lifts from the glass with a bouquet of blue florals, giving way to savory spice, a mix of red and blueberry fruit, smoky minerals and dusty dried flowers. On the palate, I found silky textures balanced by brisk acidity, ushering in mineral-encased raspberry fruit, with savory spices contrasting sweet, creamy liquid violet and fine tannin, which slowly mounted. The finish was long and spicy, with tannins up front and saturating red fruits and minerals resonating throughout. Wow, totally classic with so much tension and poise.
