Chilled, decanted for 30 minutes and then gradually warmed up. Amber in the decanter but more golden in the glass. Beautiful ripe tropical fruits on the nose with a lot of dense aromas like those from a freshly baked lemon meringue pie. Intense energy on the palate with a decent brace of salinity contrasting with the rich fruit and the secondary notes of honey and toffee. Fantastic wine, glad I got to try one of these with some age on it.

Fragrant tropical nose of lychee, pineapple, peach pit, lanolin and some chalky minerality. Has a viscous mouthfeel and a dry mineral-citrus bite. Reminds me of a riper version of a Loire chenin blanc, though I am pretty sure that grape is nowhere to be found in this mix. The chardonnay shows through a bit fat and flabby, and I would like some more crispness here, but it is still drinking well at 8 years of age.

A field blend of Gewurtzraminer, Trousseau Gris, Riesling, Roter Veltliner, Chardonnay and a few others. Dry-farmed, organically, 50% whole cluster, 50% de-stemmed and soaked. My Last bottle and as my last note was 4 years ago I'm excited to taste. Once opened and brought to correct temperature aromas show moderate-plus intensity in the notes of kumquat, quince, lychee and touches of lemon and orange zest that combine with the scents of honeysuckle, orange blossom, exotic spice and saline. The palate show good weight with a touch of viscosity. Focused and precise acidity blazes through start to finish keeping this round wine exceptionally light on its feet. Flavors show citrus notes that combine with kumquat, nectarine, white peach, quince, lychee, honeysuckle, orange blossom, spice, saline and a hint of petrol. Long through the complex finish. This wine is drinking exceptionally well right now and is in its prime.

Popped and poured with chicken scallopini with capers. Opened side by side with the 2012 Carlisle Compagni Portis. This had a much rounder flavor and not as tart. I could drink more of this throughout the night than the Carlisle.

Brilliant golden yellow color with very appealing perfumed aromas of peach, honey, citrus, melon, and floral aromas. On the palate, it's medium -bodied, fresh, exotic, dense, and layered and harmonious with peach, melon, mineral and spice flavors. Long finish.
From Bedrock..."Planted in 1954, the vineyard is organically dry-farmed under the guidance of organic guru Phil Coturri. The head-trained vines are a palate of fascinating white varietals—Gewurtzraminer, Trousseau Gris, Riesling, Burger, and some that remain unidentified—producing stingy yields of under1 tons per acre. The resulting wine is exotic and aromatic, dense and totally unconventional. It is as unique as the vineyard from which it comes.

Popped and poured, bright yellow/gold hue. Showing loads of honeyed citrus (lemon/lime) and ripened apple aromas immediately off the pop along with notes of lychee, florals and hint of spice, the latter perhaps from oak. Minerals appear with further aeration and it's difficult to think of any wines that show a more pronounced aroma of fresh honey. Could so see this taking on a petrol character with additional aging... Medium-light to light body, nice concentration. Exuberant, eclectic flavor profile of green apples & pears slathered in honey, ripe nectarines, floral/saffron-infused candies, and even a touch of the tropical pineapple...just covers the gamut! While the zesty acidity is somewhat obscured by the powerful flavor profile, it keeps everything wonderfully lively and fresh on a shameless close. Hard to say exactly how far this goes but there's no doubt it will be better by next summer 2016 and even more so a year from then. Fun, unique, idiosyncratic and while not for everyone, this is a can't miss if you're into CA wines which break stereotypes.

After a Rhys, this is noticeably richer with more mouthfeel. Lots of orchard and stone fruits. This may sound unusual but after a glass I had the distinct impression there was something in the profile that was very reminiscent of something I've had, a combination of stone fruits, tropical and coconut like tones... sauternes! I'll see if that happens again on the next one, but that is the best way I could describe this, a dry sauternes. If anything, it certainly is very unique.

Stone fruit, citrus, and a whiff of honey on the nose, very appealing. Creamy mouthfeel, definitely towards the riesling end of the spectrum on the palate, with minerals, stones, citrus, and honey. Just shy of sweet. Perfectly balanced, lip-smacking acids. Well balanced and refined.

I really love this vintage. Sometimes, the aroma has more payoff than the flavor, but not in 2012. The Gewurz really comes through, but the other varietals keep things from getting too soapy and waxy. Just lovely, perfect with Asian food, or just drinking on a summer evening. Good brunch wine, too.

Didn't smell any fruit this time, but tasted grapefruit. A hint of sweetness. Nice white/yellow color. Really smooth and fun to drink with non-Geeks. Drank this at our Hanukkah party. This was the last of my 4 bottles. I've always been a fan of this vineyard and producer.

Pop & pour at fridge temp. Pale straw color. Nose of lychee nuts, peach blossoms, and ripe pears. Palate showing a Riesling character, with stone fruits - apricots and white peach, crisp acidity, finishing with minerals and floral notes. Does not come off as sweet at this stage as some older vintages, but minerality taking center stage. Paired nicely with Thai carryout.

A field blend of Gewurtzraminer, Trousseau Gris, Riesling, Roter Veltliner, Chardonnay and a few others. Dry-farmed, organically, 50% whole cluster, 50% de-stemmed and soaked. Aromas present with moderate-plus intensity and definitely show off more of the Gewurtztraminer and Riesling characteristics. Floral, with notes of orange blossom and honeysuckle, banana, lychee, papaya, kumquat, spice, mineral. On the palate rich fruit and a viscous mouthfeel provide a medium/medium+ bodied white. Acidity is medium bordering a medium-plus. Flavors of banana, lychee, tropical fruits, honeysuckle, kumquat and clementine, lemon zest, spice and mineral. The finish is medium/medium plus lingering on the floral and spice notes.

Not sure about this one. Hugely aromatic stone and melon on the nose. Cold and with food, it does not work at all. Bitter finish, not enough acid. Warmed up and without food it's better, more apple taste, but sort of thin and still just meh. I usually like Bedrock whites, so not sure if this is a bad bottle or just not at all my style. Will have to see what my other bottle is like. No obvious flaws but will give benefit of the doubt and not score.

An evening with friends and a lot of wine (Chris and Renee's Home): This was ok. IIRC, I liked the 2010 a bit better. IIRC, this has some Chard, Riesling a bunch of other less seen varietals. This bottle last night, drank very much like a Rhone white. A bit of lemon and a bit waxy. Very dry. Not much complexity. I would prefer a bit more acid. Still, it is a nice wine and enjoyable if not great. It seemed the crowd had higher hopes for this one.

Fairly nice again - ripe pear, melon, and flowers - but more sweet and less acidic than I really prefer. Of the Bedrock reds & whites I've tried so far, I really liked their cheap Shebang! white the best: it seemed to me the most complex, and with more of an agreeable rough edge. I can understand why most folks like this and the red Zin-heavy blends, but to me so far they've all screamed new world in a way that makes me want the old world.

This was an interesting and delicious wine, and seemed to me like a cross between gewurztraminer and a rhone white like roussanne. Some gewurz-like hints of lychees and rose petals, but also broad rhone-like fleshiness, with an intriguing smoked/cured meat character and something like bay leaf. Full-bodied and seamless on the palate, with a strong presence from start to finish. Held up well overnight, but the cured meat character dissipated. 92 the first night, 91 the second.

This one was a bit mute at first, though the nose and palate opened to reveal notes of lychee, citrus and floral accented with honey. Compared to the prior vintage of this wine, the flavors were softer, and the acidity was lower.

A perfect pairing with corned beef- Rich and luscious, with just a whiff of sweetness. There has to be a bit of Gevurtz in this as there is a distinct lychee note present in the nose. The balancing acidity in this is much better than most Cali white blends. A terrific value, and a sommelier's dream

Chilled approximately 3 hours before serving. Each glass was allowed to warm for a half hour before tasting. The nose was beautifully aromatic, with notes of green summer melon, peach, perfumed white flowers, beeswax, and quince. One thing that surprised me was how smooth the wine was, it had less acidity than I anticipated. As it warmed up, a buttery note came out more and more. The flavor integration was excellent and I think this will hold together for several more years.

One of the finest young winemakers in California, Morgan Twain-Peterson has created a very elegant white with a mildly sweet nose, and favors of Asian pears. It's not as sweet as the nose would suggest and silky on the finish. We decanted this to get the best exposure to this wine. At this price, a strong recommendation. GOOD.

A strong but agile mid-weight white that really comes into its own after 3-4 hours from pop-and-pour. Lots of lime, green apple, some straw, faint lychee. Palate is slightly textural, and the wine carries a nice balance through the finish. Should improve short-term. Maybe decant next time?

Light gold color. Nose is beautiful with pear, green apple and some black licorice. the fruit carries to the palate. More sweetness (residual sugar?) than I expected. I didn't feel this had the acid to carry it, and found myself wishing it had more, which I think would really round out the wine.

Pale yellow in color; clear; nose of honey, flowers, bright citrus and this crazy little bit of anise every now and then; unlike the 2011, there was very little fruit on the palate, mostly honey and flowers, no oak whatsoever; low to mid acid levels; medium finish.
This is so easy and enjoyable to drink but I wish there was a little more acidic and mineral backbone.

Nose is lovely, and this is tasty enough, but it's quite low acid and really ripe - VERY California. Paired pretty nicely with some spicy highly acidic meals - some Thai, some huevos Motulenos (with habanero salsa). But generally I'd prefer a fair bit more acidity for pairing with most meals, and I thought Bedrock's cheaper "Shebang" white brought considerably more complexity to the table. That one is a *fantastic* bargain.

Lovely and exotic nose of tropical fruit, reminiscent of lychee and dried mango. Palate is rich and unctuous, yet never heavy or cloying. Finish is freshly fruity (like a ripe peach). As always with this wine, a fascinating and fun drinking experience. Very nice.

Very pale in color, light, refreshing. Hard to pinpoint the fruit, but the lack of oak is evident as it comes across much like an unoaked chard only not chard. Nice finish also with a lingering exotic tone.

Believe it or not, I opened this as a cooking wine for my wife, who asked me to find her something that would add something more interesting than the chards she would normally select.
This will fit the bill. There's really a lot going on with this wine. On the nose, florals, sweet grass, and a bit of a resinous note.
That resin note carries to the palate, and provides a nice sense of structure around which everything else seems to organize. Dense fruits. Relatively low acidity initially though it does become more apparent with a bit of air. A fair touch of sweetness. I don't notice much in the way of oak, but given everything else that's probably thrown into this blend, it doesn't need oak to provide the complexity.
It'd be really cool if the person who planted this vineyard way back when could taste this wine. It'd be mind blowing for them I'm sure. Can't imagine they visualized this!

Really nice white wine, who knows what's in it but I don't care because it's delicious. Lots of perfume on the nose, very similar to Viognier. On the palate I got a great balance of acid and fruit. I got some mineral flavors along with lemon curd. As the wine warmed up it became voluptuous but there was some tartness starting to show. Recommend drinking on the cooler side of room temperature, this was delicious right away.
This is a nice drinking wine. I didn't taste the minerals of the past 2 vintages. The nose wasn't like the last 2 vintages. I didn't smell any fruit. I didn't taste any fruit. I thought this bottle (vintage) is more restrained than the '10 and '11. This was a real crowd pleaser at our brunch (of bagels and lox etc) with Barrie and Eric.

Lemon, floral and mineral notes on the nose. The palate matches but an emphasis on the floral then citrus then minerals. Distinct and tasty though a touch more acid would really take this to the next level. Drink now-2015.

Pale color. Lovely but subtle nose. Expected light weight but it's more medium. Dry and crisp. Tight. Flavor wise, almost too much going on here and not as balanced as I would like. Fruit flavors are tart and sour; not my preference.

2007 Napa Tasting Evening (Everett home): Started the night with this white. Notes closer to a Chardonnay than anything else to me, but with more depth and other flavors making an appearance at various points. Not and oaky, buttery white, but not a super crisp white either. Very interesting blend of grapes to get the night started right.

First glass was disappointing, round, seemed to lack the focus of the last two vintages, didn't show much on the midpalate and finished slightly bitter. Drinkable but a bummer. Second glass, whoa, this is what I remember, melon and orange, liquid flowers, decent acidity, no bitterness on the finish. Not sure if it was where my palate was or this just needed air, but I'd give it some time in the glass if you don't enjoy this right away.

White flower and melon nose. A melange of fruit on the palate, a bit busy, but suave. Finish is very clean, moderately crisp, and long. Certainly needed to be on the cooler side of your typical white serving temperature, put back in the cooler for a bit after some initial pours.

Popped and poured, and drank over the course of about 3 hours. Aroma and taste were initially very much honeydew and canteloupe. There were also some baking spices on the nose after an hour or more. Also got some very interesting peppermint like aroma after a couple hours. The taste at the 2+ hour mark was really enjoyable - still had some of that melon, but also showing some acidity. Very interested to see where my other bottle goes in a couple years.

Nerdy California Wines (Domaine - Washington, DC): Tons of wildflowers on the nose, with sea salt and smashed banana. Creamy on the palate, but full of acid. I get banana and orange peel, mixed with perfume and some herbal undertones. A white blend that has a little bit of everything.
Nearly crystal clear, this wine still has a medium bodied mouth and a complex palate. Not terribly aromatic but still it has grapefruit nose that is enjoyable. The palate has the grapefruit, citrus and a touch of tropical fruit components you might expect but adds a bit of spice, good acidity and a bit of gentle tannins at the finish. Very nice!

Very interesting field blend white. In a blind tasting, I might have guessed a blend of Viognier, with maybe some Roussanne. But neither of those are in the Compagni Portis mix -- or if they are, it's only in small amounts.
It's a relatively low-acid wine, which isn't my style normally, but the complex flavor and touch of tannin at the end definitely redeems it. I'm very happy with this purchase, and curious about other wines made with fruit from this eclectic vineyard.

GOOD.
