Good dark cherry fruit, quite heavy as you would expect of a CndP. Rosemary, hedgerow. Long, fairly straightforward. Drinking now but will improve over the next decade.

A very nice wine, especially on day 2. Elegant nose, showing slight heat, grenache sweetness, a hint of smoke and leather, tertiary notes. Is probably at its peak, however no sign of fatiguee, probably 3-4 more years to go. Lots of sediment. Glad I have 2 more in my cellar. Bought for 30 € 9 years ago.

80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Mourvedre. Decanted. Med+ garnet. Med+ dried red fruit, dried black plum, grilled medicinal herbs, lavender, carob and sweet baking spice from 12 mos. aging in various sizes of oak containers. The nose is developed. Dry but fruit-forward, w/ med acid, med, resolved tannins and high alcohol (14.5%). Full-bodied, with med+ to pronounced flavor intensity and length. Drink now, not likely to improve with further aging.

Solid mature CDP. Black fruits on the nose, with some sweet raspberry and earthy notes coming through. Good dark color in the glass. Opened up after an hour, with the slightly stewed fruit notes integrating to produce a quite pleasant package of raspberry, bing cherry and smoked meats. Decent finish, still quite fresh with savory notes. There’s a bit of heat but overall this is holding up ok. After about 6 hrs, it started to markedly decline so I’m taking that as a sign to drink up my remaining bottles.

Excellent with chicken-porcini-Marsala dish. Agree with some previous notes that it starts off with a slight stewed fruit flavor, but that dissipated after about 3 hrs open. Nice grenache and Mourvèdre fruit flavors, supple mouthfeel, maybe a little smokiness in there too. Really enjoyed this.

Holy moly was this good tonight. Had with a lamb leg pounded thin and rolled up with tarragon, herbes de Provence (including lavender), shallot, mint, yellow onion, and some other ingredients slow cooked with parsnip and other accompaniments. Opened up and had a string stewed fruit component and I thought it was well over the hill. 4 hours in decanter for half of the bottle brought out pretty incredible grenache and other CdP notes belying this wine's relatively modest pedigree. I actually put about 1/3 of the bottle under some argon spray and had it the next night with reheating the same dish. The wine was pretty incredible and held together well, with an impressively long and complex finish. Tannins are resolved. There was a good bit of sediment matted to the inside of the bottle and the last 5% of the wine was pretty packed with it. Tannins resolved but still providing enough structure to keep everything together.
I don't think that this wine will improve further with any more time after being stored at 54F for 8 years. It needs a good 3 hour decant to show its stiff and is either at peak or slightly past at this point. Drink up!

From magnum. Lovely nose of sweet spice and dark red fruits. It is drinking beautifully now, with a lovely balance between resolved fine tannins, the fruit and the acidity. There is a sweetness of fruit that makes it particularly easy to drink. I am hoping that my memories of (a 1995) Vieux Telegraph at the same age are accurate and that this follows the same trajectory because I said more or less the same about the VT at 10 years old. At 15 years the VT morphed into something altogether more interesting and exciting as it dropped some of the sweetness and added tertiary flavours and aromas. If so, this could turn into something (for me) more complete. As it is, still a very nicely made wine that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Coravin CdP Super Bowl Tasting. Did 6 ounce pours of Usseglio and Donjon from the 2010 vintage. The Usseglio was the 49'ers starting out fast and the Donjon ended up being the Chiefs and dominating by the 4th quarter. The Usseglio initially had the edge with some riper forward fruit while the Donjon was holding back and reserved. However, with air-time the Donjon just kept blossoming with those secondary notes, like cedar, olive tapenade and mineral elements while the Usseglio stayed one-dimensional.

Pnp. A good bouquet of aromatics with lavender, barnyard leather, blackberries, smoked meats, incense and dried herbs. On the palate this is ready to be consumed with uplifting acidity and polished tannins, blackberries, a dense layer of iron and charcoal, and black licorice punctuating the finish. Very good length that is dominated by the mineral tones. Some heat on the finish, but modest overall. This is in a good place, and while it probably cruises through 2025 in the cellar, the development is probably near peak.

This was beautifully balanced. Nose of black olives and spice; no tannins to speak of on the palate. The weakness was in the finish, in my opinion. It felt flat to me. Could it be just exiting its dumb phase and entering its drinking window?

Drank this with a long flight last night so no detailed notes. However I enjoyed this a lot. My favorite of the night against a disparate flight of right bank St Emilion clones. This is drinking well in terms of balance and finish but probably can hold for several more years.

Holidays 2017: This wine, on the other hand, was a perfect foil for a big Christmas dinner. Sophisticated and elegant yet powerful, long and robust. Such a good combination of food friendliness with the stuffing to stand alone as well. Spicy mix of black and blue fruits, with some floral and mineral notes coming through.

Still a bit young I thought. Strawberries, plum and dark cherries, reasonable tannic structure and medium body. Problem I had was it had heat. Am hoping this will reduce over further time ? Give another year or two for next bottle.

This wine was opened yesterday, and consumed the remainder today. Beautiful plum and strawberry on the nose, some smoke and minty garrigue. The palate shows off notes of dark plum skin, black cherry, kirsch, and charred barrel. The full bodied wine weighs in at 14.5% abv, and the firm tannins give nice structure and mouthfeel. Drink this wine now through 2020+. Very good.

Good CdP, more delicate than I'm used to. Less liquid rock, tar, and herb. More floral, lighter fruit, slightly more red and lighter on the palate. Not sure I'd give this to 2022; it may last, but I don't think this will age particularly well.

After having a younger CdP recently, I decided to try another young one. Usually I prefer my CdRs young and my CdPs old (15+ years) but let's be clear this Usseglio is not a Beaucastel or Pegau. It is however beautiful at this age. Think big juicy fruit with some sweet tobacco, HdP, tar and pencil lead. This is a great wine and probably even better young than old. I did decant (twice) and drank with the perfect pairing, but I won't bore you with what we ate, just know this is a great food wine (and if that food entails steak, prosciutto and a wine reduction sauce then so much the better. ;-)

This was really fresh with red fruits aplenty. Zesty with pepper (to the point I might have been duped into calling it zinfandel if blind). The spices bring you back to CdP, though, and licorice hints kick in on the finish. Seemingly ready now, but I suppose might improve.

A CdP :Lunch (ICASI): Always a great value in CdP. Purple/ruby in color. The nose has cherries, cough drop (cherry) and spice. Maybe some herbs too. On the palate, this is quite smooth. Drinking great right now. Ready to go. Lots of lush black cherries and cherries. Nice balance. Good finish.

Exceptional!!! A gorgeous aroma of fresh berries and mild mineral accents were present on the cork as soon as we opened the bottle, indicating there were no oxidization issues. The wine opened up further in the glass and provided a sumptuous nose dominated by raspberry and black current, while almost perfectly complimented by savoury elements. The taste matched the aroma with a sweet front palate of berries and spice that was balanced with a touch of olive and graphite on the mid/back palate. The acidity level was just right to ensure freshness while allowing the signature CnP rich and smooth texture to shine. An absolute treat to drink and clearly this wine has entered its peak zone, which I suspect will last several years as there was enough tannic backbone present to ensure it won't be syrupy any time soon. Uncorked and left in bottle for 2+ hours and subsequently poured into a decanter 30 - 45 minutes prior to drinking. I believe this is all the decanting it needed to drink amazingly well.

Quite unusual for a CdP. Tasting blind, my wife correctly guessed primary varietal grenache with secondary syrah and tertiary others, but put this as coming from California. I probably would have done the same -- intense purity of fruit here, with minimal oak and no floral aromas at all. This is a rich wine - not elegant, but not necessarily a brute either -- just flavorful. Aromas and flavors of plum pastry, spice, licorice, and good length on the finish. If you love traditional CdP stay away. If you are curious to see what Rhone can do in a modern style, seek this out. This is approachable now, but should hold strong until at least 2022.

Du fruit et de la structure, il est gras avec une minéralité qui m'étonne. Il a de l'étoffe, de la structure, moins immédiat et gourmand que le 2009, sans doute plus profond. 2010 Chateauneufs (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Whoa, aromas of black fruit and garrigue leap from the glass. The power carries over to the palate. Wine Blogger's Tasting - 2010 Châteauneufs (MacArthur's - Washington, DC): A vibrant purple color in the glass with thick legs. The aromas are rich and seductive: boysenberry sauce, figs, hints of pepper. The palate is jammy with black cherry and boysenberry fruit and accented with smoke and grilled meat. taste: chewy tannins with a medium feel and low acidity. Good and forward dark tones of licorice, liqueur, black cherries, and spice tones

88(+) pts

I did decant (twice) and drank with the perfect pairing, but I won't bore you with what we ate, just know this is a great food wine (and if that food entails steak, prosciutto and a wine reduction sauce then so much the better. ;-)
