This was hands down the best wine I've tasted in a while. Half hour decant. In such a perfect place right now showing incredible balance and depth. Mouth watering on the palate and near perfect from start to finish. I don't hand out scores like this lightly (this is as close to 100 as I'd probably ever go) but this is deserving of every point. Spectacular wine.

Off purple color with deep cherry and spice aromas. Deeply satisfying flavors of cherry with mineral depth. A touch sweet, but a fantastic balance of acid, fruit, alcohol & tannin. Finishes long and lean. I think this is a drinker to be enjoyed within 5-7 years of vintage date. I'm not a Pinot guy, but I loved this wine.

Kickoff wine by my host Decanting Queen for our 2nd night of the latest, greatest Jenapalooza. Little did I realize what the night would hold.....

Super chilled then pnp'd into our glasses and enjoyed over a few hours with repeated pours and various cheeses and crackers before getting to the really serious stuff and dinner. I liked this wine. It is high quality, no doubt. It is extremely well made. Medium yellow in the glass with a bit of a muted nose of lemon cream and citrus oil. As it warmed I felt is suffered a bit as opposed to the Aberro Chenin from last night which improved further over time and gained complexity. This bottle just didn't quite have it for me and as DQ said, probably needs more time to develop that complexity. This is very well made, but hard for me to fathom the tariff on this one. Because of that, I especially appreciate the generosity of DQ for opening and sharing this one with me.

After the excellent 2018 Akasha last week, we wanted to give this one a try. Coravined into a mini decanter for 6 hours. Not sure it made a difference and maybe lost something on the nose from pnp.
Very similar to the 2018 but not drinking quite as well (yet, I hope). Big juicy fruit, very well balanced despite being overall HUGE. More savory notes than we found in the ‘18. Meaty, herbal, food like. Probably better complexity but overall not the same wow factor. Will try again in a year.

(Btw , in case I have given the impression that this wine wasn’t delicious, we ended up opening the whole bottle that I had painstakingly coravined. Not a drop left for day 2 analysis)

Started our DVPalooza with Jen and Paul. Her opening salvo was the '14, mine the '13.

Right from the pnp, this one started to open and perform. Cork in good shape, dark garnet in the glass. Half was poured into a small decanter but it seemed to drink just as well from the bottle as all 4 of us finished it off over 1-2 hours. Nose of rich, dark berry liqueur, with a tinge of pine needle. Palate of rich, layered red/black berry fruit with a bit of black licorice on the end. Very well integrated with faint grip of tannin left at the finish as well. Acidity is perfectly balanced throughout. Borders on a 95 for me. Has to be at its peak, should hold here for a couple more years, I think.

Light straw color.
Nose is fresh lemon lime fruit with a fresh cut underripe pineapple note.
Good fresh into with tart citrus notes and opening up with some mineral and sea spry elements.
Such a fresh and inviting version of chardonnay.
Delicious.

Deep, but fresh, notes of sweet and savory herbs, cool minty, there is also a ferrous note adding minerality, some red and darker cherries, also some graphite. It‘s medium+ with excellent persistence, it has high acidity and medium-high tannin that is very good quality. Long finish. A fascinating wine that is a touch rustic, but it wears it really well, lots of tension and energy here. One of my best bottles of this so far.

JFK once said - in his charming and melodramatic fashion - "too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." Needless to say, JFK never saw the Internet, but he anticipated its worst aspect: lots of noise, not much signal. CT is generally a pleasant exception, but I'll add my voice to the babel.

In other words, I don't know s--- about white Rhone varietals, much less those from California. I've liked a few, forgotten a few. (Truth be told, and completely out of fashion, I am the opposite of ABC - I love Chardonnay, and everything else white is somewhat of a sideshow.) Still, all the throat clearing aside, I'll tell you how this wine tastes (to me), with my own combination of opinion (plenty) and experience (little).

Light yellow and somewhat cloudy in color; full (somewhat oily) in body; aromas of poached pear, honeydew, and marmalade. The flavors are similarly tropical but a bit more lively, with notes of peach, saline, and apricot, with a viscous finish that still allows the alcohol (14.9%) to poke through. I'd prefer a wine that is more fresh and elegant (read: less baked and blowsy), but maybe that's out of the cards (for this varietal, or region... dunno!). Blend of 55% Grenache Blanc, 28% Roussanne, and 5% Chenin Blanc. Decant at least an hour if opening now, but ideally wait until 2023 or later. 92+ at the moment.

PnP and then consumed over 4 days, sealing and storing in the fridge in between.

Medium to dark purple in color. Bit of funk, tobacco, dark fruit, dark cocoa powder, hint of heat on the nose, at first. Medium in body, quite sticky tannins but not overpowering. A lot of purple and black fruit, black plum and black cherry bubblegum. After 90 minutes of bottle air, showing itself to be more well-knit, no heat, settling in nicely. Nose showing a bit more meaty.

More put together on night 2; nose showing a lot of dark dspice, cocoa powder, some cigar box. Still really lovely on night 4 and seems to have put on more weight, depth and substance.

Very nice, and obviously many good years ahead for this wine.

6/20/2022 2:22:00 PM - I would be curious to hear what you think. I had my first bottle of a half case 3 years ago, and my second and third in the last couple of months. I think where it is at now is as good as it is going to get (which is really quite good) and that letting it age 5, 10, or 15 more years is not going to add much to the experience of the wine. But I could be wrong, and I don't consider myself the expert. Enjoy!

I liked this. It is not an epic P-C, but it is very good just the same. I decanted through an Ullo filter and put the decanter, covered with a piece of Saran Wrap, back in the wine fridge. We drank a couple of glasses on day one and finished on day three. Last glass was the best.

A little tart smokiness on the palate combined with stewed prunes and dried cherry. A small bit of graphite on the finish.

This is ready to drink and is, to my mind, best enjoyed with steak, grilled lamb, venison, or creamy cheeses. Not necessarily a wine to enjoy on its own. I confess I had the last glass with a bowl of Ruffles potato chips by the pool on a pleasantly warm afternoon, and I enjoyed that just fine.
