  • AP #24 - Recent purchase. PnPed. Was funky at first - some blue cheese and slightly worried it was corked but it all blew off. Now a bit of lemon curd. Light, airy, maybe slightly dilute - lemon curd, orchard fruits, some zingy spices a little musk and melon, light and a little dilute - some acid and not quite in balance or integrated with the flesh - a bit of peach and melon, some minerals, finish is tart and again the acid isn’t in balance with the rest of the wine - a bit of lemon and peach and minerals - the tartness and minerality give this a nice bite at the end. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15-15.5/20.

Day 2: Classic - orchard fruits - red apple peach with a squirt of lemon or tangerine. Some green grass and cumin and mint. Honeysuckle and other florals. Light and airy. Maybe slightly missing a but of amplitude. Similar on palate - very pretty with lots of sweet orchard fruits - red apple peach. Some honey and honeysuckle. Some green herbs and minerals. Light and poised. Not racy but crisp. Some slate. Finish is tart and sweet and Slatey. Very nice. Nose - 4.5-5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-16.5/20.

  • Bought in Bernkastel in 2002 and thought it had been kept too long as a previous bottle had been unimpressive. In fact, this was gorgeous. Strong petrol nose, this wine danced over the palate with great acidity & wonderful flavors; perfect for a warm summer evening.

  • The drink date is 2010. I drank in 2017. Fabulous.

Petrol on first nose, as it should be. Apricots and white flowers (honeysuckle? Magnolia? Jasmine?) on second. Awesome.

  • Another impressive showing. Complex notes underpinned by a wonderful acidity providing great freshness. The fruit is rich and pronounced, yet it moves with elegance. No hurry.

  • I have a weakness for "bad" vintages and I loved this wine. I think that it was somewhat flawed with a suggestion of botrytis (noble?) and a slight prickle but it somehow managed to integrate these elements with some fascinating and complex aromatics which were enhanced by the usual Mosel mouth-watering acidity and a decent spine. On a previous bottle I noted a soft centre and complained about excessive richness for Kabinett but I found neither on this one.
