  • AP #24 - Recent purchase. PnPed. Was funky at first - some blue cheese and slightly worried it was corked but it all blew off. Now a bit of lemon curd. Light, airy, maybe slightly dilute - lemon curd, orchard fruits, some zingy spices a little musk and melon, light and a little dilute - some acid and not quite in balance or integrated with the flesh - a bit of peach and melon, some minerals, finish is tart and again the acid isn’t in balance with the rest of the wine - a bit of lemon and peach and minerals - the tartness and minerality give this a nice bite at the end. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15-15.5/20.

Day 2: Classic - orchard fruits - red apple peach with a squirt of lemon or tangerine. Some green grass and cumin and mint. Honeysuckle and other florals. Light and airy. Maybe slightly missing a but of amplitude. Similar on palate - very pretty with lots of sweet orchard fruits - red apple peach. Some honey and honeysuckle. Some green herbs and minerals. Light and poised. Not racy but crisp. Some slate. Finish is tart and sweet and Slatey. Very nice. Nose - 4.5-5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-16.5/20.

  • Bought in Bernkastel in 2002 and thought it had been kept too long as a previous bottle had been unimpressive. In fact, this was gorgeous. Strong petrol nose, this wine danced over the palate with great acidity & wonderful flavors; perfect for a warm summer evening.

  • The drink date is 2010. I drank in 2017. Fabulous.

Petrol on first nose, as it should be. Apricots and white flowers (honeysuckle? Magnolia? Jasmine?) on second. Awesome.

  • Another impressive showing. Complex notes underpinned by a wonderful acidity providing great freshness. The fruit is rich and pronounced, yet it moves with elegance. No hurry.

  • I have a weakness for "bad" vintages and I loved this wine. I think that it was somewhat flawed with a suggestion of botrytis (noble?) and a slight prickle but it somehow managed to integrate these elements with some fascinating and complex aromatics which were enhanced by the usual Mosel mouth-watering acidity and a decent spine. On a previous bottle I noted a soft centre and complained about excessive richness for Kabinett but I found neither on this one.

  • A wine that serves to remind me why I love riesling. pure flavors, very fresh yet with the sheen of age. I suspect this will keep drinking well for 10+ more years. The sweet and acid interplay was very compelling. My only knock was that the finish was a bit short.

  • This really didn't change one bit over the course of 4 days. Notes consistent with previous bottles. Awesome wine.

  • Another cork I struggled getting out; going to have to stick with screw tops for a while ;). Light yellow color. Lychee, peach, mango, apricot, oily, light grapefruit. Out freaking standing.

  • Decanted and served with various cheeses. Magnificent wine, notes consistent with notes from last bottle opened 10/28/2011.

  • Popped and poured. Past its peak @ 11 years on a Kabinett? I'm not an aged Riesling expert but man this is in a nice place. Stone fruit, lychee, apricot, mango, oily, flinty nice grapefruit lift on the finish. LOVE it.

  • This really took 24 hours to open up, but once it did, wow - what a great wine. On the first evening, very tight and acidic and somewhat austere with some bitter fruit running through. On the second day, the acidity is less pronounced, the flavors are more rounded, the fruit is pure and precise and there is tremendous mark from the soil filtering through the palate. The fruit is a mix between peach, mango, sweet apple and citrus/grapefruit - sweetness in the good way, yet with Chablis like precision and cut. It's truly remarkable how a wine with 7.5% alcohol can be so expressive and aromatic. Wonderful.

  • Very light yellow, young colour. Glorious nose and precise palate stacked with tangy grapefruit juice, apples, mangos and lychees. Superb wine and held up beautifully throughout the evening.

  • German wine at John Glas house: Nose: Big petrol nose with some flint. Palate: Clean entry with apple, mineral, and good acidity levels. Fairly long finish. Very well made especially for an off vintage and shows what a great producer can do. My WOTN.

  • Beautiful slate/honey nose. Moderately sweet, just enough acid, flavor of honey without much fruit support. Refreshing but a bit flat flavor-wise.

  • 2000 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett, JJ Prüm, Mosel, 7.5%, 375ml (AP Nr. 2 576 511 23 01)
The first bottle of this was slightly corked. When I was first offered it to taste, there seemed to be something not quite right; I was worried, however, that it might have been the SGN above that I'd begun with my blue cheese soufflé starter. The second bottle proved the first definitely was corked. A bright, light lemon yellow. Restrained apple sherbert nose with a hint of soapiness (not unpleasant). Very fresh and tongue tinglingly vibrant on the palate. Good fruit, slightly overbalanced by acidity at this stage, but with decanting or a year or two more in bottle, this should knit together beautifully. But as it is, this is a very pleasant luncheon or aperitif wine, going very well with my fishcake and chips.

  • This wine was a pale yellow color. It had an aroma of pears. It had some sweetness to it and was rather lush. I was surprised at what Prum was able to do in the waterlogged and rot prone 2000 vintage. The wine was lush but lacked some minerality and depth. 88-89 points.
