  • Tomato juice color, cloudy, upon opening unpleasant & very tertiary, very sour, oxidised, improved a bit after 2 hours but think it’s oxidised

  • Initially a very unpleasant fragrant fermented prune note on the nose, which made me almost pour this down the drain. But I decanted and left it for five hours and tried it before dinner. Again there was a very pungent nose but this time it blew off very quickly and settled into a much more restrained mineral, graphite, pine and liquorice aromas.

On the palate there are still remnants of tannins and a very complex, tertiary flavours of fig and Christmas cake. An interesting journey, definitely best served on the cooler side and with some rich flavourful food like the pan fried liver and onions we had.

  • Not quite as beautiful as the 2020 bottle we opened but still wonderful. Again needed a couple hours to air. Delivered classic rich nebbiolo barbaresco with no sense of being over the hill or tired. Vibrant nose of roses and earth. Palate was big with minerally fruit, mushrooms, with great acidity and a nice hit of tannins.

  • This is a fascinating version of the great Produttori juice. Needs a minimum of two hours opening (not decanted, since I was a little worried about its fragility. Maybe next bottle I'll decant for a few hours.) Once it opens up (at 2 hrs) it has a significant menthol note on the nose with a hint of roses, but none of the classic tar. The palate starts out slightly stewed, but that blows off and it is mushroomy, dark cherries, very chewy and rich, with real acidity. After 1.5 hrs the tannins come drumming out and become big big big. This wine still has a lot of room to be popped. An exceedingly satisfying nebbiolo. We'll see how it develops overnight, since there is more to drink tomorrow....

  • Very floral and herbal at first. The fruit is red and it is quite skinny. It looks better the next day showing plenty of tobacco, cedar and earth but the finish remains tart and it lacks generosity. It is a good wine from a difficult vintage.
