  • 2000 DAL FORNO ROMANO AMARONE della VALPOLICELLA- almost inky black colour; concentrated dark fruit jumps out of the glass almost giving me whiplash before approaching carefully for the next nose; spicy, chocolate, leather and liquorice accent the plum, black cherry and black currant fruit; it`s big and serious with amazing depth and complexity; I`m thinking it should be poured into 1 oz. shot glasses. A BIG DUDE!

  • 2000 DAL FORNO ROMANO AMARONE della VALPOLICELLA- OK, I pinched myself to make sure this evening was not just the dream of a lifetime; I`m going WOW then WOW the entire night; this was actually an atypical Amarone as I know them to be in that it was void of the high alcohol, intense, concentrated dried raison notes in favour of really nice, mild plum, blackberry and black cherry along with some dark chocolate and a hint of black pepper; it was in perfect balance and held a steady and even course throughout; even the texture seemed atypical or should I say not “as usual” as it was more lighter weighted giving the wine more of a statement of elegance; whether typical or not, this was sooo pleasing and easy on the palate.

  • Second dinner of the L.A. wine trip (Il Pastaio, Beverly Hills, California): Power and dense fruits. What can you say? This is an impressive Amarone that has so much going on. For those who like this style, this is a must try. Black fruits, black fruits, dark chocolate…you get the picture. But there is also some truffle, spice, and vanilla to boot. Lots of complexity and serious concentration. A long finish. A lovely Amarone.

  • 3 hr decant after being open all night; delicious, but still young

  • Madonna di Campilio Ski Trip; 1/17/2014-1/19/2014 (Madonna di Campilio): Decanted for more than an hour but did very little to develop the wine wine to the level we expected. Having tried dal forno valpolicella 2001 the night before( Papies 94) we expected something magical.. But never came round. The wine carries its 17.5% alcohol very well.. Yes this is not a typo.. with its dense core of ripe, concentrated fruit almost effortlessly . Big wine , not in any way backward or harsh but still not developed its seductive side and in a way feels one dimensional. We really believe with time this will be very special and it's a shame to open it now. 92 at best for now from us
