  • 2022 Vignoble du Rêveur Riesling Vibrations

Organic & biodynamic. Indigenous yeasts, aged for a year on lees. 10% macerated riesling is added to the direct pressed must during fermentation. The 2022 release is significantly more fruit-forward than previous vintages but that isn't to say that it isn't just as delicious, well-balanced or enjoyable as those that preceded it.

    NOSE:
    Intensity: medium (+)
Aromas: tangerine, white peach, honeydew melon, lemon, lemongrass, crushed stone
    Development: developing

    PALATE:
    Sweetness: dry
    Acidity: medium (+)
    Alcohol: medium
    Body: medium (+)
    Intensity: medium (+)
Flavors: tangerine, melon rind, white peach, mandarin orange, lemon, lemon zest, crushed stone, hint of salt

  • 2017 Domaine Joliet Fixin 1er Cru Clos de la Perrière Blanc

I may be a bit partial to the 2017 vintage from Domaine Joliet as that was the year that I participated in the harvest and did a short winemaking internship with Bénigne. However, I do have to agree with his assertation that his blanc generally best reflects its unique character & personality (or "typicité" as Bénigne refers to it) when consumed within 7 years. And alas, the 2017 Blanc is no exception. It is drinking fabulously now and of course, I would have loved for it to be timeless so that I could hoard my remaining bottles for many years to come but IF you want to taste it as Bénigne intended for it to be tasted, I do believe that this would be better consumed sooner rather than later.

    APPEARANCE:
    Color & intensity: medium lemon

    NOSE:
    Intensity: medium (+)
Aromas: baked yellow apple, buttered brioche, toasted hazelnut, baking spices, white flowers, crushed stone, hint of beeswax
    Development: developing

    PALATE:
    Sweetness: dry
    Acidity: medium (+)
    Alcohol: medium
    Body: medium (+)
    Intensity: pronounced
Flavors: yellow apple, smoke, butter, toasted hazelnut, lemon, brioche, crushed stone, lemon zest
    Finish: long

    CONCLUSIONS:
    Quality level: very good
Potential for ageing: can drink now, but has potential for some further ageing (max. 2027)

  • NV Emmanuel Brochet Champagne Rosé de Saignée

Organic wine from vines planted in 1965 (lieu-dit La Motelle). LR020. 24 hours of maceration. The vins clairs were then vinified and aged in oak barrels on their lees for 11 months prior to bottling for the second fermentation. Native yeasts, unfiltered & unfined. 6938 bottles were produced.
The nose is initially super fruity but quickly opens up to reveal a lot more complexity (in other words: my suggestion is to be patient and not drink this down immediately after serving). On the palate, it is mouth-filling (and mouth-watering) but doesn't weigh too heavily or overly saturate one's taste buds. That being said, I do believe that this release would benefit from at least another couple of years in the bottle prior to ideal consumption as it does feel like it has a lot more to give.

    APPEARANCE:
Color & intensity: deep pink with orange nuances

    NOSE:
    Intensity: medium (+)
Aromas: pomegranate, wild strawberry, black cherry, clove, dried rose, toast, hints of mushroom and smoked meat
    Development: developing

    PALATE:
    Sweetness: dry
    Acidity: medium (+)
    Alcohol: medium
    Body: medium (+)
    Mousse: delicate
    Intensity: medium (+)
Flavors: wild strawberry, clove, pomegranate, black cherry, blood orange, toast, crushed stone
    Finish: medium (+)

    CONCLUSIONS:
    Quality level: very good
Potential for ageing: can drink now, but has good potential for further ageing
