The colour is notably younger looking than the wine’s age, still reasonably deep with moderate bricking. The nose quite changeable, initially more towards the redder fruit side, with some slightly greeney pepper notes, but then gravitating towards darker blackcurrant and plum with raspberry flecks and more of a savoury meatiness and some smoke. The palate beautifully combining a sweetness of the red fruit elements with the savoury elements of grilled meat, a hint of spices and a slightly grippy, chewy herb/woody note. A wine which combined beautifully robust elements with more delicate notes - and very distinctly Syrah, nothing like the Fonsalette normal. Showed better and maybe actually younger than the one from 5 years ago ****1/2

Drunk with goose breast and garden produce. In a sweet spot this combined still vibrant plum and cherry fruit with iron, earth, leather and animale elements. The palate was perhaps more complete than the nose which drifted in and out. ****

Opened around 2 hours before serving. Pale ruby in colour, slightly younger looking for its age. The profile is very consistent with producer and site - pure cherry fruit with red raspberry type hints, floral notes, tar, sweet spice, and passing hints of truffley development. With air the wine gets richer and loses the crystalline feel it had earlier. Probably at the front end of its optimal drinking window, though this was my last bottle… ****++
