surprisingly dark in color, with some bricking at the edge, but remarkably dark. At first, I thought this corked, but must have been funk as it blew off after a couple minutes. Nose is still somewhat muted, but shows black plum, leather, roses. Great acidity, a full round mouthfeel, good body and depth. Very nice

My last bottle, and it is excellent. About 150 ml of sediment left in the bottle after decanting so stand this upright before opening. Still ruby red at the core but with substantial bricking. The nose is lovely with a bit of rose and VA and the palate is showing full maturity with mushrooms, dried cherries, and almost no tannin. This was best right after opening and faded somewhat after 4 hours in the decanter.

Tar, soy sauce, roses, dark sour cherry, balsamic, mint. Racy acidity. Tannins resolved, but all the fruit is still here. Absolutely electric, with a minute long finish. Fell off a bit (more reductive) after 2.5 hours in decanter.

Auction purchase. excellent cork with 15% bleed. 5 hr decant. The acidity and tannin are just about history but there's a considerable load of red fruit that's a pleasure to drink now.

Still quite youthful in color and with youthful dark nebbiolo fruit, tar, balsamic notes, some nettles, and florals with roses and violets. More structured, compact, muscular, and darker profiled than the '74, it does lack some of the grace and harmony of the '74, but has a powerful, more muscular, brooding side to it that I like about equally to the '74. Both bottles showing very well. If this is a representative bottle, the '86 has a decade plus at this level. Outstanding and a nice contrast and comparison with the '74 Normale and the '86 Bartolo.

Produttori tasting wine #5: considered one of the best co-ops in the world. Classic style, around 30 days skin contact, malolactic fermentation, 36 months on botti for the single cru's.
Funky nose with hints of manure, damp cellar, mushrooms and meat soup. Beautiful silky mouthfeel with sweet fruit, candied notes. 89p. Best votes 3, worst votes 3.

Out of bottle. Big funky nose with barnyard, mushrooms, earth and leather all lifted by an overwhelming floral scent. Absolutely enticing. This is old school to say the least with a huge cut of acidity on the finish. Fresh with tons of power and concentration for its age. Long powerful finish with a light elegant mouthfeel. Wow. Drink now- 2022.

Deep, dark ruby color with some translucency and hints of mature bricking. Lovely, aromatic, developed bouquet with aromas of sweet cherry, dusty earth, some dried dark cherry and a hint of tar. Surprisingly full-bodied for a Produttori with powerful structure from bright acidity and rather prominent, chewy tannins. Intense and slightly brooding, dark-toned flavors of sour cherry, plummy fruit, some pipe tobacco, a little dried fig and quite pervasive bitter and slightly mineral character that gives a good counterpoint to the rich fruit. There is some obvious ripeness, but not as much as in many other vintages of Produttori. The rich, complex and very long finish seems a bit more developed than the midpalate with slightly sweet, mature nuances of dried prunes, dark cherries, some wizened sour cherries, a little smoke and a hint of raisin.
A really lovely, aged Produttori that is surprisingly dark in character with a bit atypical, noticeably bitter edge to it. The wine sports an impressive structure, and even though it is starting to show some mature character the wine seems to be holding up remarkably well; I can imagine it to keep for at least another decade - even two - with no problems. Probably will develop only a little, if at all, so there is no actual need to cellar it any further. Utterly wonderful stuff. 92-93 now, a point or two more if the wine develops further from here.

I'm 0 for 9 in this mixed case from Chambers, though I hoped that the 1986 would show better than the 1970s bottles. It didn't. Clearly advanced and poorly stored. Undrinkable.

Moving from the '74 and '82, here is something quite special. Meaning those were very nice, but this is right in the pocket. Violets, roses, fruit, white tobacco on the palate, not the dark and heavy smoked tobacco of '74 and '82. Here was beautiful and gorgeous, and ready to go.
So there were thoughts back and forth about single cru vs. blend and I am not sure where this fell. But I will say that this is right there.

Still very fresh and lively with years ahead of it. Strong aroma of roses, blood and cherry, good acidity and still some tannin remaining. Very little sediment. My guess is it probably gets better from here.

Quite dark nose with sour cherry and fig notes, smoked meat, tar, tobacco, liquorice, chocolate and stonedust. Medium bodied palatal feel with refreshing acidity animating the ripe sour fruit. Good tannic grip and a nice stream of minerality lurking underneath the fruit. Liquorice, slight floral hints, stone fruits, strawberries, stony earth, wood smoke and meaty graphite to fig aftertaste that lingers on for ages. Really good stuff! Maybe a bit bigger, darker and riper than what I anticipated, but still very classically proportioned. Definitely no hurry with this one.

Nebbiolo Dinner with Punch Brothers (Peck's Arcade, Troy, NY): [Double-decanted at 11am. Consumed around midnight.] Muted nose. Still tannic. Rich in the mouth with lots of sour cherry. Showing really well for a 30 year old base Barbaresco.
