1st of 6, opened an hour then decanted 45 minutes, perfect cork and level - dark but not dense, transparent, quite glossy ruby, youngish robe; black cherry, mineral, nice touch of spice, fresh, pure and quite complex; medium, v long and persistent, intense rather than concentrated, bright and layered, well balanced and not clunky, early maturity, some upside, 15+ years. F+ (18).

My takeaway of trying the 06 red burgs is that they are notably less appealing than 3-5 years ago as the chunkiness has overwhelmed the fruit and freshness. The wine was quite flat in the context of a Cathiard Suchots. In fact, 06 Cathiard NSG Murgers surprisingly had more fruit purity than the Suchots as of today.

After 5 hour of slow ox, the bottle tonight is exceptional with dark fruit, oak spice, cherries and mineral. Dense and layered palate with excellent precision. Really love the structure and tension of the wine. 93-94

Les Suchots tasting (The Wolf): Sweet red fruit nose. Nice palate of perfectly ripe red fruit and subtle spice. Sexy, but with good freshness too. I really liked this, a success for the vintage. My 2/8

spicey wine, ripe, and in the running for group favorite, but to my palate it had a slight tinge of burnt rubber bordering on the displeasing. Of course, no one else was the slightest bit bothered by it.

A cornucopia of fine Rhone and Burgundy in a Playground: Cathiard put out some of the best 06 and this is no exception. Big primary wine right now. Doesn't have the cut of the Malconsort but shows more vosne spice on the nose. Really open for business.

Burg Dinner with Friends (Playground - Santa Ana CA): Extremely rich and fat with classically Vosne-styled, sweet spice. Good weight for its level, I am hopeful more complexity will emerge. Very tasty and fun, perhaps not yet (?) very complex.

Nose is clean, medium intense aromas of light red berries, red currant, kirch, morelles, some forest floor, mushroom, developing
Palate is dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, body and flavour intensity, aromas of light red berries, liquorice, floral notes, raspberry finish, long finish
Well balanced but not as precise as malcornsort, good complezity and solid concentration, outstanding quality, 92p

Lots of strawberries, but just slightly tart. Lovely nose. Best just after opening, when this showed more elegance than fruit. After that the fruit dominated, while the structure weakened. Drank over 2 hours. Pretty much open for business.

Slow oxed for 6 hours before serving. Spice, candied fruit, orange peel, nutmeg and berries. Great structure with appealing sweetness. 92-93

Lovely wine!
I was happy to discover that the 2006s are open now. At least this wine.
Ripe dark and red fruit. Spicebox, mocca, wild strawberries. A bit more meaty than last time I had this wine back in 2010.
Great mineral, elegant structure, spellbinding ... and you can taste that this wine is made by Sylvain Cathiard.
