Pencil lead, tobacco and black pepper on the nose. Still pretty youthful and a touch tannic, but some nice dark fruit and smoky tobacco notes. Remarkably good for a 20 year old inexpensive Bordeaux.

Nose is dark cherry with woody forest and hint of musty truffle, medium body on the palette with light tannin, black cherry, smoky spicy wood, ends with dry tartness. Interesting complexity, though puzzling aftertaste of corkiness, even though the cork in this bottle was fine and well preserved.

Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club"; Better Bordeaux of 15+ years old (@ My place): In the complex bouquet dark berries, sweet spices like cinnamon, cedar, forest floor and mushrooms. On the palate dark berries, sweet spices, chocolate, mocha, beautiful acidity and soft, slightly drying tannin. This wine is very mature, but still a pleasure to drink.

Birthday Dinner Party (3257 N Sheffield): Nose of baked dark cherries, dusty earth, and great cedar bark. All these play on the soft palate well. It's foremost about the earth and cedar, but the fruit has woven itself in very well. Dark cherries & dried plums. Mature, integrated tannin on the back end gives way to the cedar & soft red fruits. Tasty now & likely at peak, but could last a couple of more years.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #044; Bordeaux 1999 (By me): Rich and smoky bouquet with some sweetness and figs. Full bodied, ripe black fruits, soft tannin and bitterness. Supple. Fairly long cassis finish. Excellent and juicy wine. Ready now, no hurry.
