  • Ruby red in colour and drank without decantering. Beautiful nose - blackcurrants, dark fruits, chocolate malt, tobacco. On the palate - slight oak, balanced tannins, slightly dry mouthfeel, tobacco leaves, some liquorice. Finish - long. Now I’m only left with 5 bottles - super delicious and would definitely recommend! Really good and regret that I didn’t get more! *** initial rating92 but just raised it to 93 after about 45 mins of breathing. Amazing.

  • 14.5% alcohol. M 75%, CS 25%. The label says Grand vin de Reignac. The neck of the bottle reaches Modigliani-like proportions; the only advantage that I can think of is the potential for super long corks, but actually the cork is nothing special. Decanted an hour ahead. Medium dark colour with no thinning at the rim.
The first whiff out of the neck of the bottle is reassuring in that there is no obvious oak. The nose is lively with a mixture of red and dark berries. Similar profile in the mouth, with blackcurrant more prominent, but some unexpected redcurrants in the aftertaste too in a very seductive coulis mode; very good grip although the tannins are soft. Again no direct oak.
Not fully harmonious, but there is a lot of substance, and these are early days, so the potential is there for greater things.
I am much more impressed than what I was expecting, especially given the high proportion of Merlot.
To be revisited in five years' time (or otherwise, give it two hours in the decanter).

  • PNP - drank over 2 nights and still good on night 2. Black in the glass with a slight change from rim to center. On nose, tobacco, cassis, blackberry - palate similar. Medium body, medium+ acidity, medium tannins and long finish. Slightly extracted on palate but enjoyed this. has aged very well. 91-92. Would buy again.
