  • Out of a 3 liter bottle. A best friend gave me this bottle on release, to open upon celebration of one of my sons' milestones.
Well, graduation from professional school is that milestone!
This wine couldn't have been more perfect. We all took a turn of the corkscrew key. The cork did break off (didn't have my Durand corkscrew), but we salvaged it.
Decanted the wine, about a liter at a time, and enjoyed it over 3 hours or so. The wine was great upon opening, but became brilliant over the next hour or so.
Moist soil notes, figs and other perfectly matured black fruits, with beautiful garrigue and perhaps clove-y notes. Just kept evolving, with the last glass being the best.
A perfect experience, it lived up to the hype. Thanks to Zuli.

  • This pours light garnet in the glass. The nose is of leather, horse saddle, leather, olive, red and black liquorice, iron, baked strawberry, and rose petals. The palate shows red fruit on entry, accented by florals. The tannin is surprisingly medium plus with medium acid. The finish closes with a touch of soy and autumn foliage. This was a wine I brought and the group felt it was nebbiolo with its light color, bricking, rose petal aromatics, and high levels of tannin. Definitely not my favourite vintage of Beaucastel but there is some enjoyment to be had here in my view.

  • Tired; not dead, but definitely falling apart.

  • Interesting nose with leather, red fruit, cherries, mushrooms, and forest notes. There's still plenty of fruit on the palate with earthy and forest flavors. Nice finish. This was quite lovely. Fully mature at this point and giving a lot of pleasure!

  • Wonderfully mellow palate of old leather, fruits of the forest compote and violets. Surprising acidity, fine and still grippy tannins. Medium to full body. Long and complex. Drinking beautifully, will last for at least another decade.

(Chateau Beaucastel) Ah . . . this showed so well. Beautiful Beaucastel secondary nose. Minerals, blackcurrants, tar, barnyard, black berry. Nose was singing and kept changing for the better. Silky palate with a feeling of weightlessness. Soft tannins, ripe fruit and a long finish. Beautiful.
