The group debated corked or not, and landed on corked. Definitely had a funk but the fruit was so bright and intact. I suspect a proper bottle would’ve been sensational (like the 78)

"I wanna start clapping" (Chicago, IL): We kept waffling back and forth on this, but I was pretty confident that this was corked. It smelled and tasted that way on alternate sniffs or sips.

From a pristine case that has been cellared since release. Wow, this is a super young and super clean Beaucastel. Big nose of red and black cherry, with herbs de Provence and spice. With air the wine picks up more of the typical Beuacastel funk, but it's well integrated and always pleasant. The palate is astonishingly fresh and vibrant. Amazing 40+ year old CdP.

Dinner at Booth One (Chicago, IL): From an original carton in climate-controlled storage which was undisturbed for some twenty years. When this was originally opened, this was super clean. No funk, no animale, no manure. Spice, fruit, and earth with a hint of smoke. The palate is light, but not dilute. There's ample fruit and clean secondary characteristics here, but air seemed to start muddying the waters a little bit. A little bite of spice on the back end, but no signs of heat; this held its purported 13.8% abv incredibly well.

Christie's Pre-Sale Tasting (Amsterdam): Lovely ripe orangy red; light nose and flavour but nicely rounded, okay length.
