  • So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: Served for my Wednesday Wine Committee hosting. Opened the bottles at about 7:00 am for the lunch. Both bottles had low fill lines, and after cutting through the super thick foil, I had to clean the top of the bottles because they were pretty nasty. Both corks were completely saturated, and it only worked with a Durand. Nose smelled ok, though not strong. Poured a tiny sip from each bottle - and one seems ready to go right then, so I quickly put a cork back in. The other I left open in the cellar for a bit. When poured, these wines were transparent red, with some bricking. Black tea was prevalent on the nose. There was still fruit and a slight hint of tannins on the palate, but definitely stewed fruit, with some tomato. Still showed pretty well, but it is definitely time to drink these if you have them.

  • What a surprise. Terrible year, 30 years old...this is why you drink wine and don't wed yourself to critics or scores. Lots of earthy sweet red fruit. Mature for sure, I found this in the back of the cellar and am glad I did. Drink up. Not monumental by any means but a bottle that provides elemental Chateuneuf pleasure. (86)

  • I'm not a points guy but this definitely warrants far better than the current 84.5 CT average. Cork was really funky and dropped into the bottle with minimal pressure from the Ah So. Decanted with a filter to remove the hefty sediment. But we were rewarded with a really nice bottle - far less funk than I was expecting, with a nice deep red fruit and garrigue that only picked up weight over a couple hours. Color appeared quite young too, with deep reds and no heavy bricking. Overall this was a really pleasant surprise from a bottle I thought might be too old.

  • Fully saturated cork that was extracted in one piece. Signs of bricking. A big whiff of brett, wet fur, hints of floral aromas, and dried dates. Wild and animalistic. Somewhat savoury attack on the palate, with notes of sour red fruits. Signs of oxidation? Definitely funky and definitely far past its prime. Metallic finish. Improved after some time in the glass and as well as overnight under vacuum.

  • 43 bottles of Château Beaucastel with Bob Parker (Mark's Duck House, Falls Church, VA): This has a nice, funky nose.
