  • A gift from a dinner party guest. Very deep colour, great legs. Mainly apricot on the rich nose. Complex palate with apricots, toffee (creme brûlée).
In addition, some cumin and coriander flavours developed on the nose and mid/late palate. These became more apparent with time. Perhaps some slightly 'woody' notes on the end palate but these were not unpleasant.
Next day, still a full and flavoursome wine, with pronounced apricot and toffee on the nose and early/mid palate. The 'curry' flavours were even more pronounced. We have never perceived these spices on Sauternes before.
Fascinating stuff, still very much 'alive' after 32 years..... I haven't tried to give it a numerical score.
A sample kept in the fridge for 3 days retained all the rich apricot fruit and honey on the nose and palate. The length was impressive with just a trace of 'woody' character on the end palate. The lip-smacking end was a feature and only at this point was a memory of the 'curry' taste evident. With a little soft blue cheese, it came together nicely.
    What an experience!
Note: the inevitable tartrate crystals in the bottle were dense and easy to leave behind when pouring the last dregs with a little care.
