Drank at the Sarasota Commanderie partager event. Arguably even better than the bottle from last year. Slightly darker caramel color, beautiful nose of honey, apples and botrytis, long finish. Great bottle and I believe they will last longer. Alas, this is my last.

48x 1990 (37x Bdx, 6x Napa, 5x others): We tasted five 1990 Sauternes. I expected quite complex wines with in many cases not an ideal acidity level due to the hot vintage. Indeed they showed quite expressive and complex but the majority of the wines showed also quite fresh. Only the Rabaud Promis (90 pts) and the Doisy Daene from magnum but not from the 750 bottle (91 pts vs 93 pts) showed a touch too oily. Winner, and as so often, the only Sauternes combining intensity, complexity and weightlessness was the Yquem (97 pts). Tied for the second rank were a strong Rieussec (94 pts) and the most mature wine of all the De Fargues (94 pts). All in all, quite a positive experience. 1990 is a lot of fun but will likely be not the most long-lasting vintage.
TN: Slightly cardboard with ripe fruit on the nose. On the palate a touch better but rather fat and oily and with not as much depth as the others. 89/90 pts
Decanting: Not decanted, little change over 40 minutes in the glass.

Was nervous initially because the capsule was popping up a bit but then blown away by how good this was. The wine still seemed young with a great balance of honeyed fruit, medium sweetness (but not overly so), the classic botrytis taste, decent acidity, light-medium caramel color and a long finish. Have another bottle and may not open it for a while.

Rounded off the Hawksmoor night in beautiful fashion. Delicate, floral nose. Still very lively, initial flavours of honey and marmalade but the age has nulled the sweetness here making this so refreshing and off-dry rather than syrup sweet. Delicious.

Honey, oranges, and ripe melon on the nose. Good acidity and long finish.
