Well the views were correct, this wine has gone past it's prime. Thought for a second it would be ok, but it's like drinking sour cherry juice. It must have been good when it was ready. Too bad.

The bottle that we drank tonight was probably around the 9th or 10th of this vintage, with two remaining now. The 1997 vintage has been my favorite of the range fI have tasted so far from 1993-2004. The color of this wine was a hazy red-brown. Immediately, I was able to detect the aroma of vanilla when I brought the glass up towards my nose. The texture was quite soft with respect to tannins with a primary taste of plums and black currant.

Probably at its peak right now, considered how tame the tannins were and how smooth the texture and mid palate were. However, the juice was so one dimensional and even after one hour of decanting it never really opened up. The finish was abrupt and nothing to brag about. Oh well, you can't win every time you think you've made a great purchase.
