Pale garnet. Dried grass and smoke-led nose and palate, with ripe redcurrants. Some tannic bite and loads of acids to give a fresh kick. Medium length at best, but good complexity

Great bottle, one could see the age in the color - no longer ruby red more brown red. The taste was as it should be - possible a touch softer than younger years.

Wow, talk about variation between bottles! Shows much more youth than the previous tasting from a bottle from the same purchase lot.
Very refined and rounded tannins coats the mouth like an excellent St. Julien. Cassis fruit still prominent with tertiary qualities of smoke, cedar, and dried herbs. Drinks extremely well and at its peak.
Let us remember Madame de Rothschild a pioneer in wine.

Wine was stored in a proper cellar and remained untouched for at least 10 years. Cork was like new, the wine condition was outstanding. The 1996 reminded me of an aged Bordeaux First Growth. Aromas of dried cherries complimented by elements of cedar and pencil shavings. In the mouth the texture was smooth with near perfect integration of acidity and fruit making this a very well rounded wine that drank very easily. This is a lovely medium bodied wine of dried cherries and dried herbs that although linear on the palate and a tad shy on the finish is nevertheless a very delicious experience. The first vintage of Almaviva is a must experience for all lovers of this wonderful joint venture. I entirely agree with the previous review by Golstone (he tasted 2 years ago, Jan 2012). The wine has rolled over and is mature. For some wine lovers this is wine is at its best. I suggest, however, to drink now.

Lost some fruit but still dark fruit and good finish. A little bricking but beautiful nose and remarkable legs for a 24 year old wine. Fabulous QPR.
