Wine Spectator Grand Tour (Las Vegas, NV): This deep ruby wine is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Carménère, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, aged for 20 months in French oak barriques (71% new). Flashing lots of ripe black fruit, pickling spice, milk chocolate, tobacco, licorice and vanilla, it is a full-bodied red with well-integrated alcohol (15%) and low-to-medium acidity. The oak is dominant at this early stage and the plentiful tannins are a bit angular. Dense in the middle, it moves on to a lengthy, albeit grippy finish. Give this some cellar time. Drink 2026-2041.

WS Grand Tour (Walkaround Tasting) (New Orleans): I’m be if my favorites of the tasting with plenty of room for upside. Having had older vintages, I was surprised by how approachable this ‘21 was. You really could enjoy this now. A substantial wine of dark berries and cassis, butterscotch, licorice and spice. A hint of something CBD/herbal on the nose adds some complexity.

Licorice, cassis, spicy butterscotch, plum, and subtle eucalyptus. Dry, satiny palate. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.
This needs time. There’s potential built into my score. All the raw materials are there. Enjoyed this at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans. My wife and I met Decanting Queen there. Very fun event.

Suckling Wines of the World: it was hard to fully appreciate this amongst so many wines to try and while this was another impressive Chilean Cabernet based wine with rich, ripe fruit, it was not a favourite for me and not as good as a previous vintages tasted.
