  • Dark ripe red berries, spices, licorice, raspberry liqueur, dark berry compote in the nose, really bountiful palate with lots of fruits, medium acidity, fine ripe grainy tannins and medium plus finish. I expect this will be in a better spot in 10-15 years

  • A: deep, ruby
N: initial barnyard (dissipated after 15 mins), black pepper, red plum, black plum, cooked strawberry, cacao, earth, slight herbaceous note
P: dry, high acidity, high ripe, grippy tannins, full body, 14.5% ABV
C: outstanding wine = balanced ripe fruit and lovely structure, high intensity, med (+) concentration, long finish on red/black fruit, alcohol is high but integrated, can drink now but will improve over coming 5 years and good for another 10 year after.

  • Polished, voluptuous, and drinking beautifully already. A beautiful purple of medium density with a slightly blue cast to it. The nose opens with the sweetest Penang cloves and that combination of fruity cherry pipe tobacco and leather aromas that reminds me of those tobacco and men’s leather stores that used to populate malls in the 1980’s. A thread of horsemint emerges after about 2 hours open to rep the garrigues, followed by a generous whaff of strawberries and cream.

The taste is still tight and needs time to fully open up, you do get the cloves along with some pepper, chewy marasca cherry and dark plum fruit, lingering fruity tobacco amid graceful tannins that have plenty of grip without intruding. Black tea on the back end.

This is perfectly enjoyable now, but clearly most of it is still packaged up and closed off. The first of a case, I drank this knowing it probably wasn’t ready. Like I said it can be enjoyed, but I won’t open another for at least five years. This will probably be at its best from 2030-35 or so. A fantastic gsm, and just my type of red wine.
