PnP. Red-violet with a touch of brown. Muted earthy cherry nose with an interesting (unidentifiable to me) vegetal component. Medium weight fruit that finishes a bit flat with insufficient acidity.

This wine really confuses me. Opening it initially, I thought it was corked. The cork showed signs of creep and hinted at some leakage. Nose was a bit closed and mysterious. Flavor again was saying corked, but by the 2nd glass it seemed more muted. Odd fruit, heavily tannic, some acidity but not crisp. Overall, a bit dissapointing.
As a side note, the wife loved the wine and thought it was almost perfect. Maybe my tastebuds were off?

Wine Cask Futures Off-line Dinner (Wine Cask, Santa Barbara, CA USA): Dense dark red color. Shy nose of spice and cherries. Medium full body with good texture and balancing acid, but marred by big bitter tannins without enough fruit to balance them out. I believe the problem lies with the fruit and the vintage as the 2000 Ojai Clos Pepe Pinot suffers from the same defect. Wait this one out, or try serious decanting; in either case -- hope for the best.
