I took about three hours to open up. Great old wine. We had it with beef fillet and port wine sauce. We also had a 1989 Opus which was better and had more fruit.

My daughter served a bottle I had given her for her 21st birthday from her birth year at dinner tonight. Decanted about 3 hours before dinner. Light to medium garnet color. Nice nose of chocolate, plum and light florals. Palate has more red-ish fruit like cherry and red plum along with some leather, cedar and more chocolate on the medium length finish. Light to medium bodied and silky smooth on the tongue. Not the best 1984 Cali Cab I have had but certainly interesting and tasty...along with a little nostalgia...

Past the peak by at least five years. Still interesting with a tawny color and tea spice nose. Very supple and the fruit is still there in a bay leaf and brown sugar note. This wine was sent to my cellar from the winery warehouse in 1987 and has had perfect storage since. Ullage is 3/16 inch below the cork

What a sensational Bordeaux style wine from Napa. The nose exuded scents of roses and kirsch. The taste danced on the palate with flavors of black cherry tart, plum pudding and cassis. WOW!
