  • Deep ruby with a very youthful look about it. Lots of sediment though. In fact, the bottle was coated has that “patinated” look; when the sediment appears to cake on the side of the bottle. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, brambles, dried dark fruits, leather, earth, black pepper and baking space. On the pallet this wine is rather opulent with ripe dark cherry and bramble fruits, tobacco, some pepper and baking spice too. The finish is so long and dry. Acid is medium as are the tannins which, are mostly integrated at this point. A very beautiful wine that seems to be aging very well indeed. Should be fabulous at 20 years and probably well beyond.

  • Still very nice even 16 years in. Tannins are super soft but still a tad of structure. Almost decadent fruit. Dave always makes super wine.

  • Opened after the 2007. Not as much fruit and rough around the edges. Not sure that this will get any better so I would drink up.

  • When we first opened this, there was raspberry and mint on the nose. The wine was still very tannic and had a bitter finish. Very little fruit.

We have the second half of the bottle the next day. It greatly benefited from the air. The jamminess you expect from a Zinfandel was quite noticeable, but it was mellower than a young zin. Bitterness was gone.

So clearly this wine is still good but just needs to be decanted.

  • Med ruby cloudy with sediment and faded orange rim. Fairly restrained nose- some jammy red blue and black fruits and sweet oak vanillan. Med plus tannin and high alcohol, bitter Oak phenolics on palate. Red raspberry, peach yogurt, blueberry, cigar ash, finishes ripe and sweet and then bitter. It has a commonality with aged Bordeaux, as all aged reds move in that direction. A little unbalanced in the alcohol department.
