Opened an hour before we poured for dinner. Taste at pouring was bitter. Opened over the course of the meal w pepper and spice and old wine nose. But gone ie not good by three hours. Waited too long I am afraid.

Decanted off just a bit of sediment. Cooked cherry color, not overly brown, with orange highlights. Very nice, cedary nose, with tobacco notes and good hard spices, and just a few plum notes. Ultra-smooth on the palate, with a medium-bodied texture, red fruits, and leathery flavors; just a bit of heat. Finishes very drily, with some grip but no tannins ahead of yeasty flavors. This wine has held up exceptionally well; it's by no means over the hill. Rather, it's actually noble in its old age. Wonderful.

Very nice older Zinfandel. Out of the bottle rather Chianti-ish and reserved with most of what you would expect with a younger Zin aged out. With time in the glass this blossoms with soil notes and red fruit depth. Long finish and nice acidity keep it together.

Maybe tired for zinfandel drinkers, but for a crowd of mostly bordeaux blend drinkers, everyone enjoyed the subtlety and age of this wine.

Wow - surprised by how well this kept. Black pepper on deep red fruits with a mellow aged medium body
