I think that this one is getting past due. In fairness, this is an almost 15 yr old PN from California - one that I bought recently. At any rate - the nose has a slight barnyard character, though not enough to be a turnoff. Medium+ body. The first impression on the palate is pleasant & smooth, strong black spine. At times, the finish was terribly drying w/ strong wood notes - at other points it wasn't really as pronounced.. At this point, this is more of an intellectual exercise than a hedonistic one.

Wow, terrific vintage. Fruit has settled in and the wine is in great balance. Dark cherry prevails with slight wood notes. Medium body, generous mid palate and terrific finish. Burgundian style, beautifully delivered. May not improve much more from here, but wow this is good. Not rushing out to drink my last bottles, this will be interesting to taste in the coming years.

Update from a previous review. Extreme bing cherry, like a cherry pie, complete with a slightly sweet crust. Almost no earth to this pinot, and really needs to breathe, even still, to round out. The cherry is so present, in fact, that it overwhelms the more complex floral and citrus notes in the wine, which is a shame. I think this appeals to a particular segment of pinot drinkers, but fans of sulphurous Oregon pinot will probably not enjoy this.

Classic, pure El Molino flavor. You know, the rich fruit, medium size, but not jammy. Showing some age on the midpalate. You either love this or you don't, but it's undeniably earthy on top of pinot. Not Oregon earthy, just earth on California pinot.
