clearly Paso with the usual sun-burnt fruit aromas of vinyl paint. Palate still a bit tight with unresolved tannin dominating the finish. Lots of body and fruit here but I'm not a fan of this style of wine.

Method: bottle obtained from Benchmark wine recently (unknown storage); decanted for 45 minutes, poured back into the bottle and tasted approximately 3.5 hours after opening the bottle; served at 68 degrees; Cab/Syrah glass
Look: Medium garnet; very slow legs / high viscosity
Palate: big raspberry, graphite, dry earth, clove, light dried herbs; long+ finish of leather, eucalyptus, white pepper, and light dried herbs; dry; high- rough tannins; medium+ acid; full body; almost some heat, but not quite
Overall thoughts: This is a great wine, with a great full body and great, fairly complex flavor, but this isn't quite what I'd expect or hope for after 15 years. There was way more stuffing present than anticipated and not as much secondary notes as I'd expect and not any tertiary notes. I don't know where this wine started, as this was the first time I've had it, but this didn't appear to transform or even evolve much over 15 years. I'm not sure if this has a lot of life left on it or it just doesn't age as well as I'd hope (or if it was stored less than ideally). Once again, this is a great wine, but I'm not sure I'd want to pay what is currently around $100/bottle and then wait for 15 years to end up here.

5th of 5, unfortunately, of a lot of '04 and '05 CaCs. This is my first review of the bottles, and although I didn't have them side by side, I think that they are drinking similarly, which is to say, very well in both cases. PnP. Powerful notes of kirsch and sweet blackberries with a little funk on the nose. Consistent tasting notes with a bit of dark chocolate and smoked meat. Tannins and acidity are totally integrated, and although the fruit remains vibrant, I think that this is closer to the end than the start of its prime drinking window. Definitely more in a Southern than Northern Rhone style. Stephan does a consistently first rate job with everything he produces, but without wishing to sound invidious, this is taking a bit of a backseat to the (cheaper) Lithic Rhone Blend I had from Keplinger earlier this week.

13 yrs on w youthful dark purple opaque; sediment along wall and flat cork suggests decent provenence of this recent purchase. Drifted from Cal from 2000 onward but drawn back by L’Aventure and others. Admirable concentration of black fruits and dates - Porty in fact. Lengthy regal tannins keep things in focus. Had the ‘11 of this cuvee which seemed more complete and sparked interest in joining club and along w some Sonoma Coast pinots, chards, and syrahs brought me back to Calif.
