A nice and elegant wine with fine tannins. It was dark in color, and had some dark cherry fruit on the nose. Maybe a little tart/sour raspberry with chocolate, tobacco, and coffee notes on the finish. Drink now. It is not going to get any better.

Dehlinger wines have always had an interesting earthy essence to them, what I refer to as "Dehlinger Dirt". It's what first drew me to them back in the mid '80s. This Claret has that in spades! I experimented and drank this with two, six and 21 hours of air. It was best at two hours...the longer decants seem to mute the flavors. It was also good with PnP after two trips through the Vinturi. Deep dark fruit flavor and still some tannic bite. You can drink now for sure, or wait, but not sure where this goes from here, if anywhere. Not overly complex and a tad one-dimensional, but very enjoyable...if for no other reason, than that wonderful Dehlinger Dirt!

I didn't take detailed notes on my pop and pour, but this is delicious with plenty of life left. No complaints if this wine had cost 2x (bought on release for 32 shipped). There is fruit, but it is not over the top and there is some cigar and other flavors on the back. More of an old school Cali, or maybe mid-school...

Showing great for 17 years old - deep dark balanced fruit, cassis, earth, tar, licorice...
