Lovely mint, eucalyptus and sun baked earth on the nose. Beautiful minty black fruit with solid tannic backbone. Really elegant balance, just an outstanding wine. Early drinking days, still a long runway ahead.

Nearly 4 years after the prior: big and dark. Not excessively sweet, with a pleasant hint of bitter. Yet rather monolithic. Still, pleasant enough over three nights.

First had this in May and August 2013, then November of 2016 and three years later it is even more earthy with that signature Dehlinger Dirt...did not think it was possible for it to get MORE earthy! Still love it, partly because it is so unusual (which I can see might put some people off). Chocolate notes, slightly burnt chocolate and an undertone of minerality. Very smooth, plush and rich. PnP or air, it didn't seem to change much. My last of four bottles and it was a fun ride.

The nose shows lots of charred wood and some vanilla, blackberries and a black olive tapenade note that is surprising. Ripe and tasty palate with drying tannins and some heat on the finish. Not sure what to make of this wine, it’s very different from previous Dehlinger Clarets.

Wow, what a roller coaster this wine was! At first it smelled very strongly of oak. Just like the last bottle I had nearly two years ago. After an hour or two the oak smell and taste blew off and the wine developed deep rich flavors of blue and black fruit with spice. It was delicious! The second day, the wine fell back to being just tolerable to drink. I can't remember a wine with such ups and downs. I think the lesson here is to decant the wine and drink it the first day for the best experience. The score is a combination of the entire experience but at its best I would rate it a 94.
