The nose is very Left Bank Bordeaux, distinct St. Julien type cedar dominated bouquet. The palate is fully open and accessible but not exactly generous, more like a cool year Bdx, a tad austere but nicely intense and impressive. In line with the nose the flavour profile offers cedar complemented by red fruit, cassis, leather, hints of sweet pipe tobacco and light aromatic oak spice. The body is attractively fragrant which resembles another Left Bank area, Margaux. Tannish are fully resolved, bright acidity which makes this nicely fresh and pure. The lingering finish is elegant and classical. This should be decanted since there is sediment, no need to give air-time, this is ready to go right upon opening. An excellent Montevetrano which is lovely now, probably will not get better so it is a great time to enjoy these.

Tasted blind. Leather, underwood, and BBQ flavors dominate the nose with just a hint of fruit in the background. Not much fruit left on the palate, either. This feels a lot older than it is. Not a great bottle or not a great wine...

Double decanted. Excellent wine. Cassis, blackberry, with strong herbal notes. A hint of tar on the finish. Tannins have softened.

Happily, similar to the 9/16/16 bottle and still very fresh the next day!
