Drank with minimal aeration over 2 days. Better on the second day. Nose of warm dark fruits, spice, walnut. Palate of dark fruits, blueberries, blackcurrant that lasts for a good minute. Tannins are almost resolved at this point. Could feel the warmth of the vintage. Enjoyable at this stage, however I think it is certain to benefit for a few more years in the cellar.

Such a great bottle and wish I would have purchased more. Unmistakable Italian nose upon opening. With a coupe hours of slow drinking strong secondaries began to emerge. Leather, earth, spice. Primary dark fruit was still front and center as were the tannins. Can’t imagine this won’t go further with its development but was very enjoyable with pan seared elk and garlic herb butter.

Wonderfully fragrant with black cherry, plum, wild herbs and worn leather aromas that lead to a soft yet savory, saturated blackberry and earthy flavors that carry through the finish.

Indeed the "Sassicaia of the south". I snagged a few more of these back last summer. They were laying around for about $47 and from having this a few times in the last year or two, I knew this was in it's prime drinking window. I love the rusticity of this wine. No decant recommended. The last bottle I had a few months ago, after decanting for a few hours, the wine dropped off and really didn't recover. But this bottle PNP, with some swirling, was beautiful on a cold rainy night w a homemade chicken pot pie. After a dip in the hot tub, sleep like a baby I will.
Side note - the '16 is simply incredible and probably their best wine yet
