  • Deep, dark colour, brownish rim.
Notes of black cherry, smoked ham, summer asphalt, cedar and potpourri.
Still holding up, but it's definately time to drink these.

  • 3/24 - the wine is a little rustic, but in a good way. Balanced, broad but good acidic pallet Bordeaux like but with that feral Italian element. Drink it over three nights. No argon still going after night three Goodlife left Cabernet dominant Browning at the rim. Label says 13% alcohol which on the pallet feels right hi tone, deep red fruits, dust, and a little bit of graphite pallet carry through off the automatics with good fruit still in place. went well with steak.

  • This wine appears to be well passed its prime, which begs the question is it fair to rate? Nonetheless, I will do my best to note and rate it for posterity. Incidentally, I suspect I’ve another note on this vintage but I won’t look at it until uploading this note first.

Wine in glass is ruby / crimson with distinct garnet and watery edge.
Nose initially strong in glass but fruit faded extremely quickly (mainly plum), particularly on the small amount I decanted as a test (the rest was slow ox in bottle, which I certainly recommend). Mostly secondary ands tertiary scents with a strong showing of leather, some spice and perhaps some vanilla. Nose quickly faded into an aged Bordeaux, which I suppose is not surprising given this is a blend of Aglianico, Cabernet, and Merlot.
The palate was more disappointing than the nose. Very dry and acid almost gone resulting in a somewhat flat experience. Little tannins, little structure. Finish weak - dry, with nothing to hold onto.
I appreciated the experience to consider a wine past its prime (after all, I bought a case at auction not too long ago). I certainly don’t recommend decanting. I do recommend pairing with a cooked meat as you would with a Bordeaux. We did pasta with meatballs with the intention of complementing the tomato sauce with the Aglianico but this tired wine couldn’t really stand up.
90 for effort after what I think should have been a good run.

  • Medium Ruby core, garnet periphery, pale / watery edge. Subdued nose of crushed dried flowers, vanilla spice, subtle red tart fruit. On the palate, the fruit is more subtle, possibly diminished with age - no fault of the wine given the vintage. Tannins very integrated although the wine remains dry and pleasant.
Drank late afternoon. No decant. Likely passed it’s prime but still relatively high score considering graceful aging.
