  • On the first sip I was excited... The fruit is a bit richer and complex than many Australian rieslings and the acidity facilitates that desirable crispness. On further exploration I stumbled on some citrus pith notes, but on the whole it's an enjoyable package.

  • Pungent, wild, petrichor-driven aroma, nice and stony, and borderline-funky in a good way. Similarly stony on the palate, together with cool, crunchy, barely ripe orchard fruit. Plenty of acidity. Some tannins as well, lending a pithy astringency. Fresh, fun, moreish, highly characterful wine.

  • Gong Xi Fa Cai! To celebrate my first proper CNY, I had to find a wine that would refresh, complement and provide enjoyment. What better grape to choose than Riesling? A New World one at that. The fruit for this beauty was sourced from clay and limestone soils in Waipara Valley, then underwent whole bunch pressing. Fermentation was done both in stainless steel and oak on high and low temperatures with wild yeasts.

Deep golden color. Highly aromatic, just that bright right fruit that you expect from Riesling. Dominant notes of peach, crisp green apple and yellow pear, with tiny hints of kerosene. The aromas keep developing as the glasses keep coming. A bit of nuts, orange peel and blossom come into focus. On the palate, the wine is not a racy, lean expression you'd expect from Mosel or Wachau. Rather, it shows much more chunk (partially thanks to 4g of residual sugar), while still retaining the trademark acidity you find in all swell expressions of this grape. Long, stony finish. Paired best with homemade carrot cake. Thanks for being an awe-inspiring host, Pirom!

  • NZ Wines: Orange, pear, lemon and some apricot. Palate is sweet upfront but some texture keeps it interesting and it has enough acidity to drive it on.
