Agree with E1855. This is beautiful. Stunning nose, vanilla, leather. Cigar box, red currants, velvety, with a long, long finish. (Marks auction purchase).

I do not know how it happened but Pontet Canet 1997 evolved in a spectacular and unexpected way the past couple of years. I bough ta 12 bottle case upon release and have been regularly disappointed. The wine was typical of 97, earthy, green and globally unpleasant. I had 2 bottles left which were sitting there and I decided to open one on July 4th. What a pleasant surprise, green aromas have disappeared and the wine smells and tastes now like a good old fashioned Pauillac. Medium body, some tannins left and this difficult to describe appealing taste of Bordeaux wines that aged very well. I now wish I had one more case!

Lovely mature colour, pale rim and muted ruby. Subtle nose and gentle soft mouth feel. All the tannins gone and delicious round soft flavours.

Fully mature, drinking well, classic Bordeaux characteristics. A nice wine but not one I would seek out.
