Birthday party (Chicago, IL): Not as good as the other 1984s we had earlier in the week. This was a little volatile and thinning out on the palate. I could have guessed merlot instead of cabernet franc here.

Nose: Leather, pencil, cedar and mint with Dark Straberry, Plum and dried bluberry notes. Palate: A bit stern and dry initially with quite a bit of tannin, but the fruit came in as it opened. Cedar, graphite, mint, blackberry and old library book. Well pitched acidity and a classic Napa meets Bordeaux profile. Finish: decent length and nice wood, smoke and spice with more eucalyptus in the finish.
This was from 3L and served at a party for my wife's 40th Birthday. Definitely about as good as this gets. Fresh, coiled and mostly secondary notes on the open, but gained over about 90 minutes.

California Cabernet dinner (Annabelle's Kitchen, Calgary): Dark and still vital. Fruit has some spice and a sweetness to it. The bright acid strikes me as citric acid but it's probably not. The last bottle opened at dinner so I was getting fatigued. A very good bottle, well cellared.

Nose: dark fruits, chocolate Food: Spanish Notes: 1984 is a tricky year across all wine regions, I believe Napa might be one of the rare exceptions where the wines in this vintage is still considered drinkable. This Beringer I feel is probably a little off peak but still quite drinkable now. You can still feel reasonable amount of fruits in it and the chocolate flavor is quite attractive. I liked this wine, the next 5 years will probably be the final drinking window for this wine. Drinking window: Now-2027
