Wow, great pinot. Great dark nose that has quite a bit of complexity, smoke, wood a bit of meat on the nose and dark red fruits. This is one of those that makes you want to just take in the aroma. The taste and finish is not as good as the nose, but that is because the nose is soo compelling. After having a few Russian River Pinots, this one is missing that bit of cola. If it had that, it would be a 95-96 rating. I need to look for a few more of these.

Wine Country August 2001: Mostly from Van der Kamp Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. Earthy funky nose. Stewed tomatoes. Spicy acidic palate. Green herbs. Doesn't strike my palate well. Needs time and air exposure. The tasting room staff says it opens up.

Way too much oak. Disjointed acidity. Not much left here. After two hours in decanter falls apart and turns herbal and astringent.
