Magnum, with a cork that left black marks on the hands. Barely a bubble (just the slightest petilance). Deep yellow in colour. Rapidly developed in the glass to its full richness of brioche, honeysuckle etc. - lingering and beautifully subtle. No hint of sherry-type overtone. Can only believe it will still be delicious in another 10 years. A wine that is now etched in my memory and I feel incredibly fortunate to have tasted it.

I have had a few bottles recently where the wine was fine but nothing too out of the ordinary when opened, but is stunning the following day. Says to me that it doesn’t need drinking any time soon (a bit too late for that conclusion!). Wonderful balance between highly structured and quaffable. There’s a reason it is so popular!

Decanted with gentle pouring for 90 minutes and it put on weight. Absolutely delicious and all you could hope for. Last glass was about 4 hours after decanting and it was losing something at that point. Drink now and over the next year or so, but I thought it was excellent and a treat. Happily I have another 6+ bottles!
