I wish I'd bought more of these. This is a wine for the Oregon Pinot purist. Ripe red and black cherries with some raspberry bramble and cranberry, and deeply complex forest floor aromas of dirt, bogwood, and mushroom. A mouthful of earth and ripe, sour fruit engorge the palate with seamless balance and a clean finish. This is one of those wines you can glance at in your cellar from time to time and take comfort in sliding it back in the shelf.

Gorgeous color and overall package. Raspberry, bright cherry and muskmelon notes with some floral complexity on the nose. This is off-dry in style but the acidity brilliantly cuts through the RS, giving it great balance and lift through the finish. It's a well made and delicious wine but doesn't quite deliver in complexity at the price, although that's not to say that it's outrageously over priced. It's totally enjoyable.

An eclectic mix of black cherries, raspberry bramble, deep red apple skins, and a bit of plum stand out on the nose. This is different from my previous experiences with this bottling. More primary fruit and forward but still expressive in its complexity. Balance is there on the palate in that there's a harmony between the tannin and acidity. Dark fruit flavors and spice persist through the finish. This is an exceptional wine although I do prefer it in lighter vintages. First tasted this at the Red Barn tasting room on release and remember thinking it was far from ready to drink. This little bit of time has softened it some, and it is drinking well now, though further aging would be beneficial.

2/28/2013 9:56:00 PM - The Ramato is pending delivery, but don't worry... I tried to find more of something like it from other wineries up your way with no luck so I ordered more Ramato while the gettin's good. I've tried other white wines left on the skins for a while that blew me away, and for pinot gris it's a great idea given the skin color. Can't wait to try it.
