Purchased from the winery during a visit in summer 2016. Drinking well at the moment! Stylistically I really enjoyed this wine as it walked a nice line between lean and elegant with satisfying richness. The nose was beautiful with rich blackberry and currant mixed with floral accents and a slight charcoal note. The palate kicked in with tart black and purple fruit framed a classic salty olive tapenade profile. The tannins were still slightly chalky but not overbearing and the acidity kept the palate alive and vibrant. Overall, it was a classy and classic style of Syrah that is very welcome in my cellar. Enjoyed it very much and could hold longer, but happy I popped it on Christmas 2021.

2009 Zaca Mesa Roussanne

This wine is showing some bottle to bottle variation, but my final bottle was an absolutely fantastic one! The aromatics jumped out of the glass with apple pie spices, bruised pear and apple, dried honey, chamomile tea, and cardamom spices. The palate shows great textural elements with nervy acidity still very present keeping the wine in balance despite the 14.5% abv peeking through a bit on the finish. At 11 years old this vintage has plenty of life left if you have a good one. I opened a 2009 for Thanksgiving 2019 that was a dud.
