Opened for my May bottle in the NW Wine Report 2024 Rhone Blend Challenge. This one checks in with 60% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 10% Carignan, at 14% ABV. Dark ruby with some murkiness. The Mourved stands out to me on first sniff with it's wild and brambly aroma. Showing flavors of cherry and strawberry fruits on the attack, bramble and tobacco with some nice minerality in the middle, and tart cherries and oak on the finish. High acidity that makes your mouth water. It's a nice, well-made wine, just not really my cup of grape juice if I'm being honest. Drink now - 2032.

1 hour decant; flavors of cassis, fig, wood and vanilla. Smooth and creamy texture, no rough edges here. Drank well throughout the evening. Drink now - 2030.

2019 Black Powder Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

Splash decant; still quite young and showing ample drying tannins. Black and blue fruit is nice and round, although not as rich as I'd expect from an Oakville Cab. I still think this needs more time or a lengthy decant. Push the window out to 2025-2026 to start and I think you'll be rewarded. Should drink well from that point through 2039.
