PnP, then 15 min. in the glass. Nicely melded, and slightly understated, flavors of black fruit, cherry, tobacco, worn leather, fall spices. Soft, enjoyable tannins adding to the smooth finish. Continued to improve throughout the night.

deep garnet color; wet brambles with dank blackberry, hint of peppery cinnamon and clove in the nose; moderate tannis blend well with the blackberry jam, black raspberry and coconut milk taste. Strong white pepper black currant ganache in a long finish. Plenty of fruit but nearing its peak.

Nice wine drinking well. Has aged quite well and has lots of life left. Lots of sentiment so decant. Very good QPR. 89--90. Was a hit at the get together and the bottle emptied very fast. Burgess cabs seem to age very well.

Opened this evening as it was approaching the suggested end of prime drinking window, and I've had this in the cellar for a couple of years. Nice burgundy color with a slight orangish tint around the edge; certainly not as dark as other 12-year Cabernets. Distinct sawdust odor overwhelms secondary scents of blackberries and spice. Enjoyable first taste of berries, cassis, earth, and vanilla but declines significantly mid-palate. Overall it's a good Cabernet but nothing spectacular from Burgess, at least for this vintage.

I've been a fan of Burgess wines in the past, but this one wasn't very good. Earthy/oaky notes on the nose, with some off-putting buttered popcorn aromas as well. A little too acidic on the palate, with some decent dark fruit hidden behind the acid and more oak. Reasonable finish. Wife gave her glass to me. Corked and refrigerated hoping for better on day 2, but it had fallen apart and went down the drain. Hoping my other 2 bottles show better.

A nose of dark fruits and spice, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Cab, with blueberries, cassis, black cherry, finishing with tar and spice, solid and great QPR.

Burgess is one of my favorite producers in Napa. A wonderful nose, a complex palate, and a long full finish, makes this winemaker one of the best in the valley. 2006 may not be there best vintage, but still a fantastic complex wine and worthy of a case if a available. Its a wine that each sip makes you look forward to the next.

Dark fruit and drying tannin. Wood overpowers the fruit, and I don't see this getting better with time. More out of balance on the p-n-p, but a 2-3 hr decant only improves it a point or so. 86-87 pts. Synthetic court. Some sediment.

The 2000's in Napa Valley is a decade known for excellent and consistent wines and '06 was no exception. From a solid fruit set to ideal harvest conditions, the grapes came in with stunning quality. Involvement of Jim and Steve Burgess in 2006 resulted in a stricter, more detailed, and more thorough evaluation of maturity resulting in some of the most accurate picking dates ever. Knowing wines are made in the vineyard, this is paramount. It's core of berries, cassis and cherry leads to a smooth cocoa, vanilla finish complemented by a hint of French oak. This wine will age beautifully and years from now will continue to reveal flavor and character unique to the vintage.

Houston Cellar Classic 2010 (The Tasting Room - Uptown Park): Bretty, black fruit nose. Rich palate of raspberry, blackberry, earth, and herbs. Nice concentration and acidity. Medium plus finish. The Brett on the nose is overpowering and really ruins this otherwise well-done wine. 87-88.

This took 30 minutes to come around. Bottom line is the Napa flavor profile is there, but more muted than I expected. Good flavor and mouth feel, but not particularly concentrated. This makes it good for food.
Tasted against a 1995. Most preferred the 2006 (saying the 95 was turning to vinegar), but I much preffered the 95's integration.

too much acid and alcohol. Tannins were fine, but otherwise it's out of balance. Had a horrible cough syrupy aftertaste.
