Better tonight than the last note - medium ruby/rusty - rootsy, spicy, cherry compote nose, med body, good length but a little light on density - elegant, very nice, v good tertiary notes on the lingering finish - always dependable! We have had four bottles, varying between 88-92, so it seems like there is a lot of bottle variation with this wine. This may go another 3-5 years, but certainly ready now.

Pinot Noir tasting (Le Petit Sommelier): The nose is clean (but needs time to breathe), medium+ intensity, dense nose, high tones of black cherry, plum, ripe strawberry, tobacco leaves with vanilla and almond due to a beautifully integrated oak, feels developing. The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, medium alcohol and acidity, medium+ tannins, the palate copies the nose, dense, well concentrated, red cherry, spicy notes in the long finish. Outstanding quality, premium price, it could hold more but its sinfully tasty now.

- Purple color with fast forming legs and aromas of cloves and cherry. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of strawberry, cloves, black pepper and raspberry. Smooth texture with a medium finish - Flavor profile has evolved quite well in the last 2 years, since our last bottle. The fruit is showing more with cherry showing on the nose and red berry fruit on the pallet. It's a little more balanced now. Will keep my other bottles in the cellar to see how this ages in the next couple of years

What a disappointment. This was Gamay color. Slightly darker than a typical Oregon pinot, yet this didn't taste like one. A hint of a floral nose. Matched nicely with CR Salmon. Red fruit, earth, baking spices, vanilla, and green herbs. Fruit was deeper then I expected per the vintage. Has at least a few years left. Tried out of an OR Riedel glass and a Zalto Burg glass. Riedel brought out more baking spice while the Zalto seemed to smooth out the fruit and brought a better balance.

Nice Oregon Pinot, with slightly spicy, deep red fruit flavors (belying its rather transparent color) and a mild to middling note of oak both on the nose and the palate (where it caramelizes in a mellow way). Versatile food wine with very good length. Drinking well now, too (based on this bottle).

Palate has raspberry, flowers, cranberry, cherry, and a hint of smoke that carries into a medium-long finish that is very pretty with crisp acidity and red fruit character. Popped and poured with Thanksgiving leftovers. Clear ruby and medium body in the glass. Aromas of black tea leaf, red curry, sandalwood and fresh fig. Beautifully expressive palate of open red fruit, melted stone, red florals and flourishes of spice. Polished in feel, elegant, fleshy throughout, balanced acid, fine tannin. It finishes long with nice black peppery fruit. Excellent, really drinking well right now.

Light nose of red cherry and some funk, herbal overtones. Very Burgundian on the palette, soft with red fruit and a bit of oak, not very complex. Medium, tapering finish with smooth tannins, best drunk without food. Although the oak is light it is quite lovely. Didn't find the acid others have mentioned.

Powerful smoke on the nose with hot stone, strawberry, and red fruit decorations.
Strawberry echoed on the attack paired with raspberry and sweet herbal elements. Extremely smooth finish and mouthfeel.
A simple and delicate Pinot; best with very light flavored foods. I'd personally recommend drinking without food at all. Would be great on a summer evening.

Mostly dark cherries and plum on the nose. Cherries and cola on the palate. In fact, if I closed my eyes, held my nose and took a big swig I would swear its a generic cola (RC cola anyone?). Short finish with a little fruit and acid playing nicely across the sides and back of the palate. At the end of the day however, a rather disappointing effort from this winery. Clearly they saved the better and best (good better best) for other more expensive bottlings. At around $35-$40 this doesn't compare with other Oregon offerings in that price range (e.g. St. Innocent's various single vineyard bottlings as just one example). Because they are French they understand acid (thank heaven!!) and managed to retain enough to make this still somewhat interesting/food friendly but still........ If you can pick this up in the low $20's it becomes much more interesting....

Ruby color with a typical pinot nose. Mixed red and black cherries across the spectrum. Good balance with a full body. Again, a clear example of burgundian handling with Oregon fruit, more understated, but full and delicious.

As I remember & reported recently. Better with time in the decanter. Some early red fruit though never a crescendo of flavor and short on the finish. In the end, unfit for the news that became of the night--> the demise of Osama.

Popped and poured, medium body in every respect from nose through finish. More complete and put-together than it was just 6 months ago; a nice balance of red fruit and mild spice. Better options exist for my liking in the $40 range that this cost at purchase.

Decanted for a couple of hours. Light purple with stronger legs than expected. Tobacco, mint, cinnamon, vanilla cream, oak, dark cherry fruit, menthol, mushrooms big time. Beautiful medium mouth feel. Spice on the tip of the tongue with fruit and cream on the mid palate with a lingering spicy finish. Very old world French style Pinot on the nose and palate but then somewhat new world fruit on the finish. Beautiful wine. I think it is drinking well now but will improve over the next 2-3 years.

Half bottles (375ml) discovered at 'Super Saver', and as it had been recommended by a 'favorite taster', I grabbed one. Medium ruby color, light bodied. Cherries and earthiness on the nose. Cherries and wild strawberries on the palate, with enough tannins still to make me believe this will be even better later. Persistent finish. Delicate enough to accompany smoked haddock kedgeree, but should have been against, say, pheasant. Makes me want to find the 'Laurene'....
Primarily purple flavors with some red ones too. Decent Pinot that needs time to blow off the funk. Not exactly the most memorable but your girlfriend or wife won't think you are too big of a schmuck for drinking it. Goes ok with room service food and young kids running around the hotel while some Tinkerbell movie is playing on the hotel TV. Doesn't make up for "time lost" if you know what I mean, but not many wines can do that.

A bit reticent at this stage. Dark red color. Somewhat muted nose of blackberry, earth, and minerals. In the mouth, a touch closed up and just not giving much. Black cherry, blackberry, and a wall of minerality and acidity. You can only hope it opens with time. B/B+

Translucent crimson. Earth and ripe red fruit nose. A little tight initially but opened up with time. Nice strawberry and tart cherry fruit flavor. On the lean end of the Pinot Noir spectrum for a domestic. More ethereal and Burgundian in weight and style.

taste: medium bodied, but on the lighter side with medium/high acidity and tones of red fruits, red cherries, spices and some earth tones as well. Very well balanced with poise as well
overall: Though the mid-palate was a bit hollow, it seems like it can be fleshed out a bit with some sideways time. Well balanced and very pretty on both the nose and palate, this is more of a drinkers wine than something that will blow you away

2007 Oregon Pinots (Chicago, IL): Nose was quite nice; driven by tilled soil and cherries. In addition, there were warm spices, and currants that burst through. Classic example of an old world nose and a new world palate. Felt there was a touch too much oak on the palate added to the massive fruit. Lots of raspberries and sweet cherries.

nose: very herbaceous, dusty dry rocks, mild strawberry mouth: nice silky strawberry, black cherry, caramel, burnt sugar, vanilla, baking spices from oak. bright acid in finish with more dusty rocks. oak treatment might be a little heavy handed for this vintage since it was rather cool. also seems a little in the gap at the moment.

huge nose full of earth , spice, red berry, and orange. On the palate we have minerals, chalky dry, clean. This is deg an american pinot, and I really don't see too much of the burgundian influence. Truth is, you can only make burgundy in burgundy. Who knew?

The nose has notes of rhubarb, cherry, eucalyptus, and some sort of funky burned crouton bread. The taste is actually pretty substantial, yet light, with a lot of cherry and raspberry. There is also some bittersweet chocolate at the end. The finish is spicy and weighty with minimal tannic interference. This is a decent wine, but not worth the $30 I paid for it.

Drank over two nights. Good color. Legs are thin and watery. The initial nose is lush and full. The inital palate is very brassy and metallic with noticable oak. There's decent body on the midpalate with smoky fruit and good tannic structure, the oak's still loitering. However, the fruit seems old and fades fast, and the finish is flat and tired with a bitter astrigency at the end. Very generic and industrial. Seems emblematic of the downside of the '07 vintage: too much oak, not enough fruit. At this price, I wouldn't buy more.

A very pretty nose, smooth and showing a sappiness to the fruit and substantial oak. Palate was decent, I believe; good but not quite living up to the prettiness of the nose. A little light on the fruit, with hints of bitterness. 87-88.

Light to medium ruby color, fading at edges. Sweet, yeasty strawberry-Pinot nose, slight oak and hint of baking spice. Short, simple, Carbonic strawberry-cherry flavor, with noticeable bitter finish. Moderate acid, light tannin. May improve somewhat with 2-3 years of good storage.

I struggled to find the Pinot in this Pinot. It's fruit forward and almost baked tasting. Not what I would have expected from a winery with an attachment to Burgudy. LIght ruby in color with a subtle pinot nose. Flavors of light red raspberry, strawberry and cranberry with a bit of tannin showing and some multilevel expression of the fruit. Not the dark red fruit, jammy sweet pinot typical of many OR pinots, especially the '06s -- more burgundian in understatement and in complementing the food. This may develop more depth in a year or two.

Jan 23rd Dundee Hills Visit (Dundee Hills Oregon): Great strawberry and cherry scents on the nose along with some kiwi fruit and funky leaves. This is my favorite DDO WV Pinot since the 2001. There's none of the jammy, pillowy, plump black pit fruit shown by the 2006 vintage of this wine. No, here we have spicy, even stemmy, notes that give lift to a core of tangy red berry fruit. This will be misunderstood by Pinot lovers who look for New World extraction and volume, but will be relished by those who like their Oregon Pinots in the Volnay Caillerets profile...

This is very primary, but showing good poise and balance for drinking now. Based upon track record, this will likely shut down within the next year and will emerge somewhere around 2012 for prime consumption. Drink before 2010 or after 2011.

Distinct and strong OR pinot funk on the nose along with some nice light fruit. When tasted, some nice light fruit appears early with acid and tannins showing up mid palate. Some nice dark fruit appears later. Overall the wine is a bit off balance, and needs some time to integrate. This is typical of my experience with this producer, and the wines often show much better with a bit of age.

Light rose color.

Very old world French style Pinot on the nose and palate but then somewhat new world fruit on the finish. Beautiful wine. I think it is drinking well now but will improve over the next 2-3 years.

Doesn't make up for "time lost" if you know what I mean, but not many wines can do that.

taste: medium bodied, but on the lighter side with medium/high acidity and tones of red fruits, red cherries, spices and some earth tones as well. Very well balanced with poise as well
overall: Though the mid-palate was a bit hollow, it seems like it can be fleshed out a bit with some sideways time. Well balanced and very pretty on both the nose and palate, this is more of a drinkers wine than something that will blow you away

The nose has notes of rhubarb, cherry, eucalyptus, and some sort of funky burned crouton bread. The taste is actually pretty substantial, yet light, with a lot of cherry and raspberry.

Not the dark red fruit, jammy sweet pinot typical of many OR pinots, especially the '06s -- more burgundian in understatement and in complementing the food.
